Hi we have decided on having both grandmothers names as middle names if it's a girl and if it's a boy we will have both grandfathers names.

So the middle names will be-

Bernadette Ursula

Or

Raymond Eamon

Ha ha I know the two grandfathers names are really similar sounding but we still want to do it like this so any suggestions for first names would be great :-)

What sort of names do you like?

It's a bit hard to suggest names without any idea of your tastes and preferences.

shimmy0 · 18/07/2012 13:08

Yeah sorry

As the middle names are rather old and traditional European we would prefer to stick with traditional European. The child's surname is Scottish but not a Mc or Mac.

Something that's not too difficult to say or spell for both sexes.

Annabel Isobel - then she can be AIBU!

No just want one name as with 2 middle names its going to be long as it is.

Since your daughter's middle names are both quite long, a short first name might work best.

My first and middle name combined is 13 letters long - I sometimes found at school there wasn't quite enough space for the final letter of my middle name when filling in examination scripts! I think it is lovely that you wish to honour your parents in this way but, on a practical level, a short first name is almost certainly necessary to balance things. On a practical level, I'd have a think about whether you want to really use both names - it's very long. I believe they both mean 'bear' so maybe you could just use one or go all Katie Price/Peter Andre and combine them.

I'd be thinking about:
Ada Bernadette Ursula
Iris Bernadette Ursula
Joy Bernadette Ursula
Maeve Bernadette Ursula
Luna Bernadette Ursula
Maud Bernadette Ursula
Mary Bernadette Ursula
Nia Bernadette Ursula
Orla Bernadette Ursula
Ruby Bernadette Ursula
Ruth Bernadette Ursula
Amy Bernadette Ursula
Anna Bernadette Ursula
Cora Bernadette Ursula
Dora Bernadette Ursula
Elsa Bernadette Ursula
Emma Bernadette Ursula
Eve Bernadette Ursula
Grace Bernadette Ursula
Gwen Bernadette Ursula
Rose Bernadette Ursula
Hebe Bernadette Ursula
Zoe Bernadette Ursula
Hope Bernadette Ursula
Isla Bernadette Ursula
Jane Bernadette Ursula

Similarly, for boys - shorter is better with 2 quite long middle names. Raymond Eamon is a bit of a tongue twister for me to say but, appreciating the family meaning they hold for you, how about these?

Adam Raymond Eamon
Bryn Raymond Eamon
Clark Raymond Eamon
Cole Raymond Eamon
Craig Raymond Eamon
Dean Raymond Eamon
Eli Raymond Eamon
Ellis Raymond Eamon

Euan Raymond Eamon

Finn Raymond Eamon
Flynn Raymond Eamon
Gene Raymond Eamon

Guy Raymond Eamon
Heath Raymond Eamon
Hugh Raymond Eamon
Hugo Raymond Eamon
Iain Raymond Eamon
Ivo Raymond Eamon
Jago Raymond Eamon
Joel Raymond Eamon
Lee Raymond Eamon
Leo Raymond Eamon
Leon Raymond Eamon
Liam Raymond Eamon
Luke Raymond Eamon
Luca Raymond Eamon
Ludo Raymond Eamon
Max Raymond Eamon
Miles Raymond Eamon
Milo Raymond Eamon
Neil Raymond Eamon
Niall Raymond Eamon
Noah Raymond Eamon
Noel Raymond Eamon
Otis Raymond Eamon
Otto Raymond Eamon
Owen Raymond Eamon
Rhett Raymond Eamon
Ross Raymond Eamon
Paul Raymond Eamon
Scott Raymond Eamon
Sean Raymond Eamon
Seth Raymond Eamon

Bernadette - brave as a bear
Ursula - little female bear

Raymond - wise protector
Eamon (Irish version of Edumund) - rich protector

If you wanted the name to be shorter, you could look for a name that means bear or protector. This may lose some of the familial connection you're after though!

shimmy0 · 18/07/2012 14:53

No were set on using these names, but i actually like the fact they mean the same things mother:-)

Josephine Bernadette Ursula
Catherine Bernadette Ursula
Miriam Bernadette Ursula
Alice Bernadette Ursula
Louisa Bernadette Ursula
Olivia Bernadette Ursula
Rebecca Bernadette Ursula

Or

Jonathan Raymond Eamon
Alexander Raymond Eamon
Sebastian Raymond Eamon
George Raymond Eamon
Miles Raymond Eamon
Tristan Raymond Eamon
William Raymond Eamon

shimmy0 · 18/07/2012 15:16

Tristan is my favourite boys name along with Ellis. Ellis is out though because its too close to my dogs name and my fiance doesn't want Tristan as i suggested it the day we found out but he Said no right away :-(

Agree with Stellan about the length of name thing.

My first and middle names are total 18 letters and with my old surname I had to get 26 letters onto the line on forms - never fitted!

Of the suggestions already given I like Iris Bernadette Ursula, Alice Bernadette Ursula, Noah Raymond Eamon.

If you like Ellis how about Elliot Raymond Eamon?

Absolutely love the name Ursula by the way, gorgeous and very underused.

shimmy0 · 18/07/2012 19:21

Out of the boys I'm warming to Owen.
