So we made out first shortlist last night of names we both like and would consider. not sure how happy or excited i am with either of the lists! what do u guys think?

Boys:
Harry
Alexander
Leo
Oliver

Girls:
Ava
Lily
Niamh
Phoebe
Scarlett

I am a teacher and so although I like some of these names i know how popular they are. That bothers me a bit but anyways reglardless of that what do u all think? think this is gonna be a long journey and glad we've started looking at 15 wks!!

Thanks guys x

All nice names but all very popular as you have said, depends whether that would bother you or not. My favourites would be Alexander for a boy and Niamh for a girl.

The boys names are a bit dull mainstream. Girls are better, Niamh is nice but people still struggle with Irish spellings.

Unlike others, I love all your boys choices (strong, classic IMO), but none of the girls ones which, for me, are a little bit bland. (But please don't think i'm trying to be rude - just my instinct!) Most are hugely popular, yes, but there are far worse things for a name to be!

VolAuVent · 17/07/2012 11:58

I like all of those! Top choices would be Alexander, Harry (if nickname for Henry) and Lily.

Littlecherublegs · 17/07/2012 12:21

Harry - not keen
Alexander- nice, esp Alex
Leo - lovely!
Oliver - ok, like Ollie though very popular

Ava - nice
Lily - ok but again very popular
Niamh - not keen
Phoebe- nah
Scarlett - could be worse but not a massive fan

So, if I had to choose from those I'd go for Leo and Ava!

Boys:
Alexander is really nice. Leo is a good name too.

Girls:
Niamh or Phoebe are my favourites. The popularity of the others really puts me off.

The boys names are VERY popular already and therefore a little dull imo. If I had to choose, then probably Leonardo/Leonard nickname Leo.

Again, Ava and Lily are EVERYWHERE.... Phoebe and Niamh are nice though.
