Is this too twee as a middle name?

Love Beatrix, struggling with mn.

Surname begins with 'G' and is one syllable, think the colour the sky is when it's overcast.... unfortunately, this means no vowels as middle names (don't want dd to be BAG, BIG, BUG etc...)

I love the middle name Belle

Beatrix Belle G__ - is it too 'twee'? It is, isn't it?

Can you suggest any others, mother's name is Joanie, don't think BJ is particularly kind. Other family names are all vowels, Isabel, Alice and Evelyn. (FWIW, I love all of those family names)

I also like Lucy, Molly, Cate and Milla - can you suggest any more?

Please Help!!! :)

Of your list I like Lucy (or Lucie) best as a combination. Or if you'd like to honour family members without the unfortunate initials-as-a-word thing, why not give her 2 middle names? Frowned on here I know but I think Beatrice Alice Isabel is classic and v pretty with your surname.

Or Beatrix, even (slip of the keyboard)

I think Beatrix Belle sounds like a cartoon character or the name of a boat.

DontmindifIdo · 15/07/2012 12:25

Oh go for it, you like it! It's cute and it's not like she's often going to have to use her full name.

However, other middle name options (assuming it needs to be short as the first name is long) -
Ruth
Rose
Ann
Hope
Alice
Molly
Ella

I like it! Smile

Having 3dc of my own (the oldest at primary school) I have realised the middle name really doesn't get used that much! Most people wouldn't know my dc's middle names, though we liked giving them as they have meaning for us (dd1's is Joy, dd2's is Grace and ds' is George).

That said you may find she will use the initial more (Beatrix B G...), particularly for signing her name when older.

I have two middle names and see no problem with it (my brothers all only have one each) - I would rather have two middle names than none!

HandMadeTail · 15/07/2012 12:36

People never use all three names (except mothers, when very angry). So, don't worry too much about how they all sound together.

I agree that the initials which form a word combinations should be avoided, as initials are more likely to be used in everyday life.

If your surname has more than one syllable then it will sound fine. If only one, it does sound a bit abrupt to my ears, but again, the only time she will use them all is when she is baptised, married, and when you are telling her for the last time to put her shoes away!

I love the name belle but im not to sure about the 2 b names close to each other.. and would there be a risk of her being called trixie belle which sounds a little like a cat to me.

I think Lucy is a great middle name with the 1st name you have choosen.

Beatrix Belle is too twee for my own tastes but what's important is that you love it. Belle, to me, is just a little insubstantial. Belle is just another name like May, Rose or Grace, tacked on because it sounds pretty but it doesn't really mean anything. These names will be the next generation's Louises and Maries. I really like names - the meanings, the family significances, the namesakes - so using a name like Belle as a middle name just seems like a wasted opportunity. For me, I like a middle name to do something more than sound pretty. If prettiness is your main criterion, Belle fits the bill and you should use it with confidence - it will achieve what you want. Trixie Belle is absurd though - family name only!

For me, I'd pick something else: a name with a nice meaning, something connected to my family, the name of a woman I really admired and whose qualities I'd like my daughter to emulate or just a name I love but didn't feel brave enough to use as a first name. It's hard to suggest names without knowing your own preferences but I'd go with something like:

Beatrix Martha
Beatrix Hannah
Beatrix Marianne
Beatrix Bluebell (I really like bluebells!)
Beatrix Christabel
Beatrix Daphne
Beatrix Lucy
Beatrix Kitty
Beatrix Penelope

I think Beatrix Belle is lovely.

Other options
Violet
Lilly
Briget
Rowan
Delia
Sybil
Robyn
Rommily
Rebecca
Ellen
Ashley

Mollydoggerson · 15/07/2012 18:18

Annabelle or Isabelle.

That way you get your belle without it being too twee

CockOff · 15/07/2012 19:01

I love Beatrix Belle :)

Thanks guys - as I said, I am avoiding vowels, otherwise the name would be Alice or Isabel.... I know you cant force a nickname, but Trixie we wouldnt use - probably Bee or Bix for nns.

I think I love it enough to use it, but don't want her to have a life of ridicule, because I thought it was appropriate :)

I also love Poesy as a first name, with mn Alice but that is never received well by anyone... :)

thanks for help thus far

Maybe avoid F names too, or else you will have BFG!
