I have boys names ready, no probs because for some reason DH and I are convinced we are having another DS, however, we could be wrong and if 'it's a girl!' then I want to have two or three names ready. I need some help though. I do like pretty French names and classic names, but I don't want to pick a name that could be shortened to something I don't like. I want a name that is good for an adult too, looking to the future, so nothing too cutesie. Excuse inane pregnant rambling! I like:

Clara
Amelie
Cecilia
Allegra
Erin (which DH loves, but I'm not convinced)
Celine
Connie
Serena
Beatrice (Bea)
Alicia (on fence)

...but any ideas welcome. Thanks!

suedpantsoffem · 11/07/2012 15:12

Clara - love it
Amelie - bit too affected
Cecilia - nice, but she'll get teased
Allegra - see Amelie
Erin (which DH loves, but I'm not convinced) - love it
Celine - see Cecilia
Connie - nice, but it's a nick name, and I have a "thing" about using nick names as names
Serena - nice, as long as she lives up to it ( ie is serene)
Beatrice (Bea) - love it
Alicia (on fence) - love it

I absolutely love Clara, Cecilia, Connie and Beatrice. Don't mind Amelie. Not overly keen on the others.

MagdalenaAlec · 11/07/2012 15:26

Clara: not keen, prefer Claire
Amelie: lovely
Cecilia: really like it
Allegra: love it! My #1 choice in your list (unfortunately for us it is my SIL's name)
Erin : very nice and poetic, really really like it
Celine: not keen at all
Connie: short for Constance or by itself? love it either way
Serena: like it but prefer Seren
Beatrice (Bea): love it
Alicia: not keen, prefer Alice or Alix (medieval Alice)

How about:
Josephine
Marianne
Ariane
Anais
Gaïa
Eleonore
Blandine
Apolline
Leonie

TodaysAGoodDay · 11/07/2012 15:28

Clara and Erin ane lovely. The rest I don't much like.

missmiss · 11/07/2012 15:38

Cecilia is my favourite. I don't like Amelie or Erin, and I would prefer Constance to Connie, but all of the others are nice names, imo.

CapuccinoCannoliLover · 11/07/2012 15:43

Thanks everyone, answered my niggles on the ones I wasn't so sure on and some lovely suggestions. Smile

Erin (which DH loves, but I'm not convinced) - common
Celine - Dion?
Connie - don't like
Serena - Williams?
Beatrice (Bea) - quite like this but pretty poopular

VolAuVent · 11/07/2012 16:14

Viviennemary · 11/07/2012 16:37

Love Cecilia. I always suggest Pandora but nobody seems to like it much. Sad

BeattieBow · 11/07/2012 16:43

Cecilia or Beatrice - both are lovely.

Annunziata · 11/07/2012 16:47

Allegras are always beautiful. I like Clara and Cecilia too. How about Claudia?

VolAuVent · 11/07/2012 18:17

I like Pandora Viviennemary :)

Viviennemary · 11/07/2012 18:38

Glad to hear that VolAuVent! Have yet to meet one though.

CarriMarie · 11/07/2012 18:44

I like Celine and Selena and also think Amelie is prettier than Amelia.

minipie · 11/07/2012 19:13

Clara - it's ok.
Amelie - ok, bit faddy
Cecilia - like
Allegra - pretty but a bit fussy for me
Erin (which DH loves, but I'm not convinced) - like.
Celine - Dion.

Connie - it's ok
Serena - gorgeous name
Beatrice (Bea) - nice
Alicia (on fence) - ok

other suggestions: Cara, Cecily, Elin, Seren, Selina/Selena/Selene, Elinor

YodasMummy · 11/07/2012 22:13

Clara and Erin are both lovely.

The problem with Alicia is that people won't know whether to pronounce it 'al-ee-sha' or 'al-ee-see-a'

VolAuVent · 11/07/2012 22:31

or Al-iss-ee-a

paradisechick · 11/07/2012 22:45

I was just thinking I know a Pandora then remembered it was from the Adrian Mole books!

CapuccinoCannoliLover · 12/07/2012 08:36

Thanks again everyone. Very funny about Celine Dion! I can't bear her, but was thinking of the French fashion label when I thought of the name, but it is def removed from list now!

I like Clara and Erin, though I think they 'feel' very different. A couple more for the pot:

Corinne/Corinna
Celeste
