Thinking of calling DS Silas. Do you know any? Do you like it? Or does it just mean Hollyoaks serial killer? Many thanks.

I LOVE Silas. It's gorgeous. Silas Marner is a beautiful book too- Silas Marner is a lovely old man!

DorothyGherkins · 09/07/2012 19:35

I was very much in love with a real life Silas when I was younger. He had dashing good hero looks, was a lovely man, and was totally oblivious to my existence! For that reason, I have always thought it to be a wonderful name.

CuriosityCola · 09/07/2012 19:38

Evil killer in heroes is all I think about when I hear this name.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/07/2012 20:02

Love the name Simeon.

bronze · 09/07/2012 20:04

Both silas and Simeon were on my list and everyone said silas reminded them of silage

I think it's fan

I think I love Silas - he's definitely a bad boy Grin

perplexedpirate · 09/07/2012 20:31

Silas Marner is a lovely book. When he mistakes the little girl's shining hair for his returned gold. And then they're all at the wedding at the end.
Aw! Smile

FateLovesTheFearless · 09/07/2012 20:31

The baddie is Heroes is actually Sylar so a bit different. FWIW I don't like it at all.

HenriettaChicken · 09/07/2012 21:14

Love Silas... Because of Silas Marner. Also, if you were looking for girls names, his daighter's called Heppy (Hepsibah) which I think is just awesome!!

birdofthenorth · 10/07/2012 06:56

In answer to how popular it is, there were 35 born in 2009, ranking it the 832md most popular name... you'd be pretty unlucky to find 2 in a class!

Lovecat · 10/07/2012 06:59

Horrible. Gives me the shudders.

Sorry, I am biased because the creepiest, perviest, most 'makes you feel like you want to scrub yourself after being in the same room with him' man I've ever met was called Silas. Hideous.

ValiumQueen · 10/07/2012 07:09

Thank you so much for the feedback. Not looking for any girls names as this shop is now closed as I am very old. Heppy is very cute though henrietta .

Sorry to remind you of a bad time lovecat

I am happy with those stats bird

I stand corrected. Still don't like it though.

Jackie432 · 13/07/2012 16:31

I don't know anyone called Silas.

MammaTonic · 13/07/2012 16:34

We're in the Midlands and I've never heard of or known a Silas. I only know of the tv series 'My Uncle Silas', so don't have any negative associations.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 13/07/2012 16:37

It was Sylar in Heroes.

And Silas in Hollyoaks.

But I have to admit the two together being so similar just makes me think serial killer, even though I quite like the name....

DottieRose · 13/07/2012 18:50

I really adore the name Silas....it's not very popular (see dark greener.com) and Si is a cute nickname! It's easy to pronounce, easy to spell, not too out there but you will probably never meet another!

ValiumQueen · 13/07/2012 18:55

Thank you everyone. Lovely post dotty. I can live with the serial killer connotations as by the time he is a man these characters will be long forgotten. Also when people look at a wee bairn they will soon forget I am sure.
