Help! Can't find a name for DS2

REALLY struggling to find a name for DS2, who is due imminently! DS1 is Oscar, and my favourite other boys' name (Sebastian) is out of bounds as it's been used in the family.

DH and I have a couple of added complications: we're currently living in the States (and will be for next 5 years or so) so we're pretty out of touch with name trends in the UK. Oscar is a grandfather's name and VERY rare (outside the Hispanic community) in the States - I was shocked to find out it's considered 'trendy' in the Motherland now! DH's family are Australian so one of our preferred names (Milo) is out on account of the fact that Milo is a very popular chocolate milk drink over there!

Ideally want a 'real' name that's not too common, to go with our very pedestrian, two-syllable surname beginning with 'P'.

Would love feedback on the following:

Leo (is it really trendy or - dare I ask - chavvy now? I only say this as a friend of mine turned her nose up when I mentioned it and said "so common")

Arlo

Orlando (too wanky?)

Evan (too 'wet'?)

Love Alessandro, and we have Italian heritage, but I still don't think we can 'get away' with it (especially as our surname is very non-Italian!)

I love Luca but that's 'taken', too... Felix is also out as it is one of my best friend's DS's name.

Any other suggestions welcome. Please help!

Miles
Arthur (Art)
Stanley

There are an awful lot of Leos around of primary school age at the moment.
Arlo is cute.
Orlando - you've hit the nail on the head.
Evan - meh

Hi! I am stateside so can let you know the trends. There's a great blog called "you can't call it 'it' " that lets you know what's booming.

Which state or area are you in? What's non-existent in some places will be the second most popular name in others.

Some names that I think go with your boys are:

Theodore (Love both Theo and Teddy as nn)

Elliott

Harrison

Henry

Julian

Nathaniel

Augustus (love Gus and Augie :) )

From your choices I like Leo and Arlo. Evan is really popular in some parts of the states and Orlando is a city so in some circles it's the same as naming your child Dakotah or Brooklynn.

Alessandro is lovely and Alexander is an offshoot of that. It's very popular but is timeless IMO.

CheerfulYank · 06/07/2012 06:24

Was going to say Miles too, Bard. Like Milo but not! :)

wimbledonisfuckingdull · 06/07/2012 06:27

Or Duncan, not wanky, chavvy, wet or dull.

WildEyedAndHairy · 06/07/2012 06:43

We couldn't go for Leo, Luca or Sebastian as already in use in our family.

Evan was one of my choices but in the end DH chose one of the names below for DS. We are in England and it is very unusual in this area but I'm guessing may be more common in the U.S.
I like all your choices so maybe you will like one of mine...

Nathaniel
Edwin
Jeremiah Wink
Gilbert

Leo is quite common in the uk so you might want to avoid that if you're planning to come back and are bothered by popularity.
Love Arlo and Orlandro. Also know an Alessandro whose dad is Italian.
How about Caspian, Quentin or Rufus?

VolAuVent · 06/07/2012 08:35

I like Arlo best from your suggestions. Evan and Leo are OK.

I'd have the same reservations as you about Orlando and Alessandro.

William
Daniel
Charles
Reuben
Matthew
Tristan
Eli
Sebastian
Christopher
George
Alistair
Aidan
Levi
Austin
Jerome

Will you be living in Australia or visiting often?

If not, why not go for Milo?

Like both Arlo & Orlando.

Maybe Arlo "goes" better with Oscar?

BikeRunSki · 06/07/2012 09:37

Ambrose

I reckon Eli is about to take off, like Noah did after Chris Evans called his first baby Noah.

Littlecherublegs · 06/07/2012 11:34

Leo - is quite popular but I like it - love Leon too
Arlo - too 'out there' for me
Orlando - dont like
Evan - not keen but there is worse I suppose!

The Oscar I know has a brother called Joel, which I think is lovely.

How about:
Dominic
Harris / Harrison
Caleb
Rowan
Gabriel
Issac
Joseph
Noel
Drew
Simeon
Zachary
Euan
Seth
Marcus
