What is Nell short for?

Really like the name Nell for a girl but wonder if it's usually a NN for something longer?

IME it's short for Helen . Not really that
Much shorter though

Nell is short for Ellen or Helen

Helen though I don't know many shortened to Nell nowadays more in classical novels.

I thought it was Helen.

Helen Eleanor and Elizabeth - but in my mind and even more unfortunately - in those of the school bullies - sorry - it will always be Nellie the elephant.....

Helena for Chalet School fans. Nell is pretty, though Nellie is a bit awful.

I know four (older) Nells, all short for Helen.
