What is you're opinion of the name Philippa? Love, hate, over used?

Now you mention it I remember some foul Greek man telling me that years ago in a bar, didn't bother me though, found it quite amusing at the time and forgot all about it. I don't even think about the Middleton connection, different era though, I always thought of pippa from home and away.... sod the Middleton one, she's a flash in the pan. My mum actually took inspiration from chaucer's wife and Philippa of hainault, queen of Edward III, she was reading a lot of historical fiction at the time but nicer association as she is a proper royal....

Pippa means rude words in lots of languages not just Greek.

LOVE it - wanted it for DC3, shortened to Pippa, but DH thinks too horsey... (bigot!). Am childminder, and work a lot at my kids' school - only Pippa I know in person is 40. I'd go for it (sadly think our name-to-be is increasing in popularity, but we've liked it for years...)

Yes PercyFilth it does, can't say it's had a massive impact on my life though , i don't mind it now, hated it at school, Philippa sounds like your being told off , i am Pips to friends and family, Pippa to everyone else, god help anyone who calls me Phil .

Squoosh i remember finding out it meant BJ on Greek and ringing my mum to tell her, her response was
"really, i knew it meant something rude in Icelandic."

No. Philippa means lover of horses in Greek, hence the occasional horsey connotations. I love my name and have loved that I rarely meet anyone with it. DH on the other hand has a really common name and I have been keen to try and name DCs with more unusual, but classic names, which is tricky. I would definitely recommend, although she may be called Phil occasionally, but that can be stopped easily with your preferred shortenings if you dislike it.

Yeah a few people have tried to call me Phil in the past which didn't go down well but soon put in their place!
