The name *Phillipa/Pippa* is forever ruined, isn't it?

DH and I both love/d that name for a potential DD2 (DD is called Frederika, Frieda for short, so it would have gone so well together) but we both feel that there is now too much of Middleton association with that name iykwim.

I'm a little sad about it and am wondering if you'd still use that name and if you'd know someone who called their DD that, would you think "Oh, trying to be fashionable etc..."

I've never been keen on phillipa but always liked Pippa, still do. Yes, there may be an association but it's not negative and I don't think the name is or will be over used. I say go for it.

trikken · 23/06/2012 12:24

Id still use it. Its lovely. I wouldnt immidiately think middleton upon hearing pippa. If we did that for every name there would be no names left to use.

Westcountrylovescheese · 23/06/2012 12:24

For me it would be ruined. However I am finding my attitude on names increasingly at odds with the potential that our DS to be named at some point. 34 weeks now and the ruination of names increases the more I research...

...my point is that I wish I could be more laid back and possibly you should too. How potential is your DD, imminent or wishing? It may be past ruination when you actually come to naming.

DontmindifIdo · 23/06/2012 12:33

I don't think Phillippa is ruined (although I think "Forester" if you say it to me, that is a sign of my age really).

MrsHuxtable · 23/06/2012 12:35

Oh, I'm not even pregnant yet. Blush DH and I were only talking about me hopefully getting pregnant again early next year and got very a little carried away wondering about names. So this is all very hypothetical.

The reason the name is a bit ruined for me is because I have an unrational dislike for P. Middleton. I wouldn't mind using a name I associate with someone I like. Plus, I wonder if Pippa will become hugely popular and overused.

I'm a saddo notoric planner.

I really love Henrietta as well, DH is for Georgina. Think there's a theme in our name choices. Wink

He he he... you definately have a theme going on there, and it's a good theme. They are all wonderful names.

...but yes, if you dislike someone with a name it would put me off. I love Georgina though.

...and don't worry about planning early. I wish I had, it's getting urgent now!

It's a lovely name, not "ruined" at all. I know someone who has the same name as another Royal but I rarely think about the connection.

jaffacakehips · 23/06/2012 14:28

Goodness me...not at all. It's a lovely name. Would you say the same thing about Wiliam, Harry or Zara????

MrsHuxtable · 23/06/2012 15:17

Haha, no I wouldn't. But then I don't dislike either of them.

Penelope instead of Phillipa? Could still be shortened to Pippa if you wanted.

tammy234 · 23/06/2012 16:01

I think Frederika is a lovely name! Much nicer than Pippa/Philipa imo. And yes, I also think the Middleton connection is quite strong, sorry.

I do love Henrietta and think it would ge beautifully with Frederika!

Doesn't Pippa mean blow job in Greek or something like that? Vaguely remember reading that somewhere.
