Charlotte, Verity or Emme?

I'm due next month and struggling to decide which girls name I would prefer for our potential DD (not sure if boy or girl yet - but boy names are sorted).

Whilst I love Charlotte and would use the nickname Lottie (which is my grandmother's middle name) my only concerned is that it is quite popular at the moment.

My DH loves the name Verity, and I like it too but I quite like names with easy nicknames.

We both like Emme but have had comments that it doesn't sound like a full proper name.

What do you think?

I like Verity best of the three, and don't like Emme at all. To be honest it looks like a typo to me and because it so so plain it doesn't give much scope for variation (I like names with at least a couple of options).

I prefer Charlotte with Lottie as a NN...personally, I just don't like the NN Charlie for a girl.

Verity is lovely.

An Emme will spend half her life explaining that her name isn't a typo.

I love the name Verity and don't know any little ones. Charlotte is also pretty but seems to be becoming popular again, would be nice as a middle name though. Not so keen on Emme.

I like Charolotte the best (but too popular for me too), then Emme then Verity.

Verity. Please use this. I desperately wanted it for DD2 and pleaded with DH the entire 9 months. He wouldn't budge and she has it as a middle name but it's not the same :(

I love Verity! Such a wonderful meaning too. Lovely.

Minstrelsaremarvellous · 01/07/2012 03:10

I have a Verity who gets called Vee and Very but she loves her full name and my heart always melts when she introduces herself. She sounds so cute and so grown up at the same time (she's 4). In fact, she just wants to be known as Verity - with no surname at all!

holyfishnets · 01/07/2012 20:37

I adore the NN Lottie!

Jackie432 · 13/07/2012 16:52

I like Emme, it does sound like it could be short for something but who cares!

Nigglenaggle · 13/07/2012 21:04

Charlotte is very versatile, she can be a Charlotte, Lottie or Charlie depending on her preference. Verity is lovely and very grown up for those troublesome years. I think Emme sounds a little odd but thats maybe just me. She will have to constantly spell it out for people though

Another vote for Verity. Beautiful name with lovely meaning and I imagine would travel well too.

In my experience you don't choose the nick name (no matter how hard you try). DS1 has a name used only by family which bears no relation to his actual name but was DS2's attempts at pronunciation.

mungojerrie · 13/07/2012 21:54

Much as i do think Verity is a lovely name, with a strong meaning, the one that I knew was known by all as 'ferret'.. not so nice.

Ham69 · 14/07/2012 11:16

I know a beautiful 8 year old called Emmie. She's Emmie on her BC and it really suits her. Lovely.

MistyRocks · 14/07/2012 11:17

oooh I LOVE the name Verity
