New to mumsnet and keen to get involved.

My husband and I cannot decide on the name of our forthcoming baby girl?s name. I always dreamt of having a girl called India, but not sure if the name will date badly? What is the consensus of opinion?

Thanks

Why the link? The names you like are Olivia, Ruby, INdia and Lilly yes?

Well apart from India (which was popular a few years ago) they are ALL massively popular and will mark her as part of her generation in future years...similar to the way other names mark women in their 30s out...such as Linda, clare, Joanne etc.

They're all pretty though. I prefer India.

StepOutOfSpring · 21/06/2012 15:19
  1. Lily
  2. Ruby
  3. Olivia
  4. India

In order of preference:

Olivia
Lily
India
Ruby

Katie don't get your family to vote..that's just mad. Your baby, you pick the name. Sorry don't mean to be harsh but really that most important thing is that you and DH are happy with the name. You will never every get everyone in your family to agree Grin

India.....LOVE this name. It's on our my list have DH isn't having any of it.

India is a great name.

EdithWeston · 21/06/2012 22:18

I think it's a bit risky having a family/friends vote too - too much potential for later recriminations (then again, your family are probably much nicer than to do that).

I tend to think of India as a modern name, as I don't thinking was much used before Lady Diana's wedding (there was one amongst her bridesmaids). It's been around more since then, but I don't think it's attached to a particular generation or class.

I would be my choice out of your four names, with Lily as runner up.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 21/06/2012 22:21

I love India.
My next choice would be Ruby, then Olivia and then Lily.

I don't dislike any.

defineme · 21/06/2012 22:22

I disagree with Edithweston- I think India is very posh-which is not a bad thing necessarily.

KatieMca · 21/06/2012 22:32

I only told a couple of friends to be honest - just wanted a different view as people on DecisionMonkey.com aren't any paticular demographic.

Thanks for the support, India is a great name.

I agree w TheSpokenNerd. All popular names that will date but they are pretty names. I don't like Ruby as much as the others.

Thanks Guys......quick update.

My husband went with my choice of India YAY!!

Word to the wise ;-)

We couldn't quite agree,
He needed external reassurance,
He would have thought a post on mumsnet was biased,
He thought a post on www.DecisionMonkey.com wasn't,
Didn't tell him many of you popped over for a vote....

Thanks,

K
