Please rate my boys names-Irish mn's opinions appreciated too!

Hi, I am currently in week 11 with my first babs, mothers intuition is telling me its a boy(obviously could be completely wrong!)

My favourite boys name is Oscar but I feel it is getting v popular in Ireland... Other names are

-Charles(Charlie)
-Harry
-Elliot
-Dexter(what is the lowdown on Dexter, is it too trendy & set to date badly)
-Setanta
-Mylo
-Blaise
-Rocco(like Dexter too trendy???)
-Fiachra(old Irish name)

Any help would be appreciated as its driving me insane at the moment! Also on a different note how many of you predicted the sex of your baby in first trimester & were correct? Only 11 weeks but instinct is saying boy!

Well, you've got a 50% chance of getting it right - so half of us probably predicted correctly .

If you're worried about popularity, I'd avoid Oscar, Charlie and Harry - all are very widely used already. We've got 3 Harrys in our Beavers group of 16!

I love Elliot, Dexter and Rocco. Not heard of Fiachra before - how is it pronounced?

Mylo (should be Milo I think), Blaise and Rocco just scream D4. Dexter not much better.

I like Fiachra and Setanta.

Charles(Charlie) -- nice
-Harry -- very 90s
-Elliot -- nice
-Dexter -- I think you're right, it is a bit trendy and will date badly
-Setanta -- fab
-Mylo -- nice thinking Milo O'Shea, but not so nice when I think of D4
-Blaise -- fab
-Rocco -- it has an old Italian Catholic vibe to it. However, the D4 aspect would probably outweigh that.
-Fiachra -- Fab, though I would spell it Fiacra

Would you consider Fiach?

I love Setanta and had it on my list but chickened out due to people (living in England at the time) asking why I was going to name my DS after a sports channel! I used it as a middle name but regret not using it as a first!

I like Elliot, Rocco and Milo.

On another subject what does D4 mean?

We are in North Dublin(Portmarnock) so as far from D4 as you can get! What do you think of Oscar Math & Joan is there loads around?As its our first we do not have much contact with babies except for nieces & nephews so we don't know whats really trendy at the moment & whats best avoided... My husband says he is not giving up on Oscar he loves it!
I do like Rocco as its a bit different & I also think Blaise is unusual. Setanta is fab but whoever I mention it to automatically says like the channel!!

Do really like Elliott & Fiachra. What about Jarlaith? I love it but DH didn't like it so wouldn't allow us to use it!

Charlie, Harry and Oscar are everywhere in London, dunno about Dubs.

Mylo, Rocco and Blaise are what I would politely describe as 'aspirational' . Not good.

Dexter is OK, but not destined to be a great classic.

I love Fiachra. Fintan? Finbar?

Elliot is nice. Or Elias? Elijah?

My favourite Irish names are Oisin, Lorcan, Micheal, Cormac, Piaras & Cillian

Iarlaith, Finnian, Cairbre, Feidhlim, Aodhan, Dara also nice.

D4 is Chelsea/Belgravia/Sloane Square, basically. Vair Naice.

wrong for dd. After all the boys, I really didn't think I could have a girl.

Oscar is nice, if popular, so your dh is doing alright! I think fiachra is great but would def spell it as you have listed it, with the h.

Setanta is pretty cool- he would have to be a sporty dude! Dexter is hideous, please avoid.

I have a 20 week old and I knew knew knew she was a girl from the second I found out. Scan was inconclusive, midwives were taking bets on the last push, and all I could think was no need to bet, it's a girl!
I was right.

Portmarnock is fairly d4 too though, you're only a stones throw from Malahide after all!

As a person of D4 origin here are my thoughts

Oscar - I know a few Oscars in their thirties. This name has always had a following in Ireland whereas it's suddenly become popular in the UK. In fact there used to be a small cinema/theatre called the Oscar in dear old D4 and it reminds me of this.
Charles(Charlie) - ok
Harry - don't like at all.
Elliot - ok
Dexter - dislike, think it's a bit faddy
Setanta - love! and shame on any Irish person who is first reminded of a sports channel

Mylo - trendy, can't imagine their are loads of these in Dublin
Blaise - I know there's a St Blaise but it sounds like an X Men character to me
Rocco - strongly dislike and don't think it is D4 at all. One of Berie Ahern's Westlife grandkids is called Rocco.
Fiachra - good solid name

My favourite Irish boys name is Ferdia, has a Setanta connection too. Easy to spell won't and befuddle people when he goes abroad.

Beyond awful : Blaise, Sentanta, Rocco
OK: Charles, Harry Elliott Mylo (prefer Milo) Oscar
Like: Dexter but it probably is one of those "trendy" type names.

I find Setanta a bit much. Have you read what that boy got up to? Shocking!

I love Oscar OP, it was on my boys short list (I live in Galway) and haven't encountered many babies with your names bar Harry, I love Blaise too. I have a DS Rowan :) Congratulations!

Irish here and haven't met any Irish Oscars. Not crazy about it myself though.
For your others:
Charles(Charlie) -- Becoming more popular, huge in the UK.If you don't mind that. Its a classic name.
-Harry -- As above, probably bigger here than Charlie but I think it will become more so I tend to believe names popular in the UK are popular in Ireland a couple of year later. Emily being an example of that. And every second girl baby is Eve/Eva/Evie lately.
-Elliot -- I like it. Reminds me of cute boy in ET.
-Dexter -- Don't like, sounds to surnamey and a bit American
-Setanta -- Love it. Strong boys name with Irish influence.
-Mylo -- Love this too. I have a thing for names not in the top 100 or so. It might feel like taking a risk but why not?
-Blaise -- Never heard it before, how is it pronounced?
-Rocco -- Don't like. Immediatley think of Madonna's son and one of Westlife's twin boys. Also tiles ( altohugh thats Rocca tiles)
-Fiachra -- Went to school with one, if you are a gaelgeoir then maybe but I don't think it would travel well and would burden him with trying to say it and spell it for people. (I have one of those names) Also reminds me of the toothpaste Fiachla, Irish for Teeth.

Forgot to say, I followed my intuition and was right too! Although only felt it was a boy after the 12 week scan. Not sure why, nothing obvious in the scan but just looked like a boy!
