George/Howard for boy, Claudia/Cordelia for girl?

DH and I are expecting our first child in August. We don't know if it's a boy or girl. These are the only names we can agree on! Love George but is it too popular? Howard is less popular and I love it but wonder about people's reactions to it. Really like both girls names too although our surname is 4 syllables long so Cordelia might be a bit of a mouthful! Have also just found out that Claudia means 'lame' which puts me off slightly or am I just being stupid?!

George is fabulous but I would think that because we have a 19 month old George. I love his name and it really suits him because he is very cheeky. I also like Howard though.

I like both claudia and Cordelia. I think I would give the edge to Claudia though.

I have a Claudia. She is the only one in her school and we have never come across another child her age with the name. We love it when we're on holiday and the Europeans pronounce it Cloud-ia.

Mainly though she gets called Claud or Claudi.

George is a lovely classic name :) Don't like Howard, sorry.

Would choose Cordelia over Claudia. Or how about Coralie, Clarissa, Cecilia?

missmiss · 07/06/2012 23:45

I like them all apart from Howard.

yellowraincoat · 07/06/2012 23:46

Cordelia and Howard I do NOT like at all.

George, so so, but a bit hoorah for my tastes.

I like Claudia.

given that you have asked...

(although names are, by definition, so personal, I do believe that you should go by your instinct and not any one else's opinion!)

I love George -i don't think it's hugely popular/over used ? I only know one, and he's 1 (out of EVERYBODY I know, young & old)
Not so keen on Howard
Claudia is absolutely gorgeous. If we were ever to have another (unlikely Sad) I would seriously consider.
Cordelia - I'm not a fan. Actually, I quite dislike, TBH (sorry)

I love Claudia and George - both adorable.

Really dont like Howard [reminds me of the ghastly little philanderer in Last of the Summer Wine]

4boyzmum · 08/06/2012 22:01

love, love, love george! ds#2 is a george and is full of character, quirkyness and personality.....just like his name!

invicta · 08/06/2012 22:03

We know a lovely boy called Howard. It's a great name.

Sarcalogos · 08/06/2012 22:08

The thing that Puts me off about Howard is a family joke (which may be of little interest/importance to you),

When my father was born my grandmother named him Howard, her mother proclaimed 'how odd, what a lovely name' and variations on theme until my grandparents abandoned Howard and called him something else!

George and Claudia are my favourites.

Beamur · 08/06/2012 22:10

Y'know I actually rather like Howard - I doubt there would be another in his class.
I slightly prefer Claudia - it's a gorgeous name, really lovely.

jujak · 09/06/2012 08:10

Love George..We have a 3 year old George and I was worried that it was becoming popular after we chose it but I've not come across too many and it really suits him..

Claudia is lovely for as girl......

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/06/2012 08:12

Love Claudia. There are a couple of Georges around me but it's not mega popular. Really like it, suits baby or man.

Crumm24 · 09/06/2012 08:46

I adore Cordelia!! It's my number one choice if PFB is a girl, but DH will not allow it! Sad Love George, too, and that would be top spot for a boy, except our DNiece is a Georgia, so they get my votes.

However, I really do like Howard, very sweet and works at all ages (baby Howie, very important and serious professional Howard)! I think you have beautiful taste!
