Boy names to go with Alec?

Everything is in the title.. We already have a list of names in case DC2 is a boy but none of them really match DS1's name imo, so I was wondering what would you suggest after Alec? Or, what "kind of name" should I look for?

Thanks! :)

Hi! I think I've already met you on a French names board. Wink
What about Colin? Karl? Ludovic?
My favourite one in your "French" shortlist was Victor.

Very likely ;) I am completely stressed out because we cannot find a boy name 1) that we really love and 2) that would go well with Alec.. I am spending most of my holidays in front of my computer, trying to find the perfect name!

Victor is indeed high on my list, but isn't it a bit odd after Alec? Not keen on Ludovic and Colin, and Charles is DS1 middle name.

TBH I have no idea how families with an Alec call their other children.. Ian is the only one coming to my mind (and we have ruled it out)

You can have a look at the Baldwin family... Grin

I have an Alec Euan John and DS2 is Hugh James Matthew if that helps.

On the list for number3 if it turns out to be a boy are Hamish, Guy, Miles, Hector, Fergus, Sholto and Edward.

biffnbuster · 05/06/2012 14:29

I know an Alex(andre) with a brother Loius.

daisylulu · 05/06/2012 14:34

I know of an Alec and his brother is Julian.

Drew?

Xander? :o

I don't really understand about names having to 'go with' each other or 'match'. Two brothers called Alec and Victor wouldn't seem odd to me, they are both perfectly ordinary names. It's not as if one is very fancy and the other very plain.

Alec has a slightly Scottish feel to it, but not uncompromisingly so. Are you looking for another Scottish name?

FoofFighter · 05/06/2012 16:39

William

MagdalenaAlec · 05/06/2012 21:28

Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to show them to DH!

PercyFilth: I believe the names on our list are from very different "categories". Even if we considered Ian/Iain at first, we would like to find a name which says more "French" (i.e., me!!) than "Scottish" (i.e. DH): Alec and Ian/Iain would be a little too much for us.

Keep the ideas/opinions going! Being French, it is pretty hard to figure out in which "name category" (sorry, cannot find a better word for it) Alec should be put in, and therefore where I should look to find the most suitable name for DC2.

I change my vote to Hugo!

I know an Alec and Ben (Benoit could be a good French name, Benjamin works well in both French and English) and an Alec and Jonathan.

PercyFilth · 05/06/2012 22:35

Frank

A French name that is also familiar in English, and (like Alec) can be short for another name.

Fluffy1234 · 05/06/2012 22:40

Gilroy.

jojo43 · 05/06/2012 22:54

My nephews are Alec and Simon, in their 30's now.

I knew a French guy called Ben once (read into that as you will...) so I agree with the very good Pharisee (so intrigued by your name!) that this is a sweet and appropriate name.

But I have to agree with others that I don't know why your children's names have to match.

You could go with Luc or Marc or Vic so they would end with the same letter... Or Antoine or Adrien or Aramis if you are going for the A-list.

If you want names which sound a bit Scottish:

Cameron
Fraser

If you want names which sound a bit French:

Marc
