where to get name inspiration?

I'm struggling for a name for DC3, and casting around everywhere for inspiration. DP was watching Jeremy Kyle the other day and there was a bloke on it called Salvador and we agreed that was a cool name, although with our surname (also starts with S) probably a bit much.
Then had to go for a blood test at the hosipital and found myself thinking Phlebotomy would make quite a pretty name Wink. Where do other people get their inspiration?

Try babynamesgenie.com, it asks you to enter your surname and selects names which compliment it!

I read a lot during my pg and got some good ideas from a bug variety of books. Also become obsessed with watching the credits after tv programmes and films and was scouring for something a bit different. We opted for Isla but it seems it's more popular than I thought as I've met several over the last few weeks....grrr!

If you liked phlebotomy (!!) my friend just called their boy Ptolemy. Honestly??! WTF!

eatyourveg · 03/06/2012 09:27

I was at school with a Ptolemy nn Tol - the coolest boy in school. Fab name!

I remember when we were stumped DP and I would scroll through film credits looking for names. Also discussed some book characters. Family names too of course.

wandering around grave yards - often calm and beautiful places to seek for name inspiration!

Oooo yes PP, we did this with newborn DD when she was a few days old (her first outing was to a cemetery!!!) and said we should've gone there when trying to come up with names. Some really beautiful names and many that are doing the rounds again now.

In my case, the DC's were named after people in my favourite bands- Manic Street Preachers bass player, and the lead singer of Bikini Kill. Have a root through your CD collection and see if inspiration strikes!

Thanks for the suggestions. We are actually at MIL's at the moment, which is next door to a chapel and churchyard so maybe I'll have a nosey over the hedge tomorrow!
