baby Leo or baby Joe

So after some fab input from mumsnetters on an earlier thread, we have narrowed our list down to either Joe or Leo with a very slight lean towards Leo. His middle name will be my maiden name which is the surname of a popular Irish talkshow host/classic motorcycle manufacturer. I can imagine that family reactions to Leo would be ooh, thats different, not very traditional etc, which they wouldn't have for Joe but I am aware that Leo is growing in popularity and he might end up with many classmates of the same name which we sort of want to avoid as his surname will also be very common! Joe/Joseph, although popular, seems to be on the decline but is a classic and not at all faddy. We live in Surrey where I imagine Leo's will be more ubiquitous than other parts of the country. What are your thoughts, have you come across very many Leo's recently, is it too faddy and would Joe be a better option? He will be our precious firstborn and I didn't quite realise how great the weight of responsibility would be for choosing a name?!

I have come across a lot of Leos at the moment so even though Joe/Joseph is a very well known name would probably be less likely to be 5 in the same class than leo? both are nice though

Leo is a great name. I like it very much.

gymboywalton · 31/05/2012 13:58

haven't met any leo's and it is a fabulous name
Joe is very popular and not as nice as leo by far

lovemygirlivy · 31/05/2012 14:27

Leo is really lovely.

squoosh · 31/05/2012 14:43

Leo, by far.

othersideofchannel · 31/05/2012 14:44

Joseph is a lovely classic name that won't date.

If Leo becomes more 'trendy' it may well sound dated if it declines in popularity again.

DottieRose · 31/05/2012 14:56

100% Leo.......Joe is just blah!

Littlecherublegs · 31/05/2012 15:34

Love Joseph - that is on our shortlist, though DH is reluctant as he doesnt like Joe / Joey.

Leo is nice too.

So, if its def out of Leo or Joe (not Joseph) I'd say Leo.

StepOutOfSpring · 31/05/2012 15:36

Prefer Joseph. It's not as liony and it's a lovely classic name :)

SiioCal · 31/05/2012 15:42

LeoSmile

Spottyfrog4 · 31/05/2012 18:18

Love Leo but dh did not do agree that it's getting very popular I think Joseph will date better.

PieMistress · 31/05/2012 19:16

Prefer Joe / Joseph, not sure about Leo but it's probably because of my star sign!
