I'm a teacher, I love finding out the names of the new children coming in! I saw the list for the new Reception class today.

The more unusual were:

Molly-Bee
Neo
Davis
Roman
Angel

There were also 3 Olivias, 3 Millies, 2 Evies and an Ava.

:)

Neo - I wonder if the parents are fans of The Matrix.

I am not surprised about the popular girls' names. Was there a similar pattern with boys' names?

GnocchiNineDoors · 30/05/2012 19:03

Roman's fine.

The popular girls names are very unsurprising.

I'd be soooo tempted to pronounce Molly-Bee like Mischa B off the X factor, "Molly BBBBBUUUUU-EEEEEE"

ButterPopcorn · 30/05/2012 19:05

There wasn't a particular pattern with the boys- there was Lewis, Connor, Callum, Brandon, Kieran type names- which are quite typical at school.

Matrix was my first thought for Neo too!

I bet Angel isn't Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 30/05/2012 19:17

Roman is a gorgeous name.
And to be honest I am actually rather keen on Neo too Shock!

hifi · 30/05/2012 19:18

the olivias and millies will be their names and the letter of their surnames forever. dd is in year 4 and its still jess b, jess j etc. dd2 is already hifi t at nursery and theres only 2 of them.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 30/05/2012 19:19

There's a Neo in DS1's nursery class. Def after the Matrix - I asked! Dad's choice apparently.

Psammead · 30/05/2012 19:19

Molly-Bee has a lovely sound to it, but it is a bit crackers.

Roman is nice and on my list.

QueenEdith · 30/05/2012 19:20

Angel might not be, but if he (or rather his father) looks like David Boreanaz, I bet he'll be forgiven a lot!

ButterPopcorn · 30/05/2012 19:25

Angel is a girl!

hifi- I'm glad there aren't a couple of other Mollys, one called say Molly Brookes and one Molly Armstrong, as then there'd be Molly A, Molly B and Molly-Bee!

I like Roman too, don't come across many though.

FriskyMare · 30/05/2012 19:29

We call DD Mollybee, she is Molly Elizabeth (so Mol - Libby)

LittleWhiteWolf · 30/05/2012 19:56

I immidiately thought of Angel being a boy, due to growing up with the TV show!
Quite like Molly-Bee. I like the normal, classic name, with the quirkt addition. I wouldn't have hyphenated it though, but that's just me.

BikeRunSki · 30/05/2012 20:00

I know a Neo, also named after the Matrix.

My cousin's wife's brother and sister-in-law (woah!) have just had a Neo.

I dont like the name ...

Meglet · 30/05/2012 21:56

I thought Neo was originally a Greek name? I'm sure chatted to someone who used Neo because their DS was half-Greek.

evamummy · 30/05/2012 21:57

Hopefully the 3 Olivias, 3 Millies and 2 Evies don't share the same surname initial Shock.

missmapp · 30/05/2012 21:58

Ive taught an angel ( girl) and she was an angel. my favourite names were Boudeccia, Ocean and Missy-Blu

5madthings · 30/05/2012 22:01

there is a Neo in my ds3's class no idea if its because of the matrix, i doubt it tho.

evamummy · 30/05/2012 22:03

Neo and Roman are cool imo. And at least they won't have to add their initial to all their work (like all the Alfies and Millies have to).

hermionestranger · 30/05/2012 22:04

There's a Neo in DS1's class, I also know a Roman of the same age (at a different school).

BellaOfTheBalls · 30/05/2012 22:06

A friend who is a reception teacher has a Neo in her class.

he is an A grade little shit

workshy · 30/05/2012 22:11

Angel was popular mid 90s due to Home and Away Grin

QueenEdith · 30/05/2012 22:12

Angel was Tess's suitor in T of the D'Urbevilles

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 30/05/2012 22:14

There is a little girl in DD class called Angel and her sister is called Star. They look beautiful. Smile
