Silas vs Drake vs Ryder

Narrowing my list down further. Seeking a name that sounds uncommon and strong, heres my current favs. Feedback greatly appreciated.

Ryder Matthews
Silas Matthews
Drake Matthews

We?re looking for a strong and unique name for our little boy. We like Silas because it sounds very unique and has a charming elegance to it. We like Drake since it sounds strong and ties into his half-Chinese side since it?s "Year of the Dragon" (Drake means dragon in a few languages). We like Ryder because it also sounds fairly unique and like how it looks with the last name.

Love to hear some opinions!

Sikas is the best of the three, but makes me think of silage, which isn't great.

Drake is OK and I like the personal link for you re 'dragon'.

Ryder is terrible.

And yes, something is either unique or it's not. Wink

I vote for Beckett. Grin

Rhubarbgarden · 30/05/2012 03:19

Silas is ok. Drake is duck to me too. Ryder says soft porn, sorry.

MarySA · 30/05/2012 12:58

I'm not madly keen on any of them I'm afriad. Silas is the best. Drake sounds like a duck to me, and Rhyder that racing cup. Wouldn't call a child either of these. But in the end it's up to you!

squoosh · 30/05/2012 13:07

Silas is great
Ryder is okay-ish
Drake is Shock Shock Shock

Boggler · 30/05/2012 13:48

Personally I think Silas is the only one worth considering the other 2 are plain awful - sorry.

bronze · 30/05/2012 13:49

I love silas
It was on my list for ds3 but dh said it made him think of silo (problem with being in a rural county)

TheMightyMojoceratops · 30/05/2012 13:53

Silas.
Ryder Matthews = "Ride A Matthews?". You wouldn't do that to him...

Littlecherublegs · 30/05/2012 14:39

Like Silas best - not keen on the others.

Also loving Linus at the moment!

CheerfulYank · 30/05/2012 15:40

Way to go, Nurse?

Whaddya think, OP? Beckett?!

lisaro · 30/05/2012 16:04

Drake and Ryder are not names. Just don't. Please.

Ormiriathomimus · 30/05/2012 16:06

just a little bit....Sorry

Silas is OK but I tend to think of Silas Marner who was quite a sad old git really.

lovemygirlivy · 30/05/2012 16:31

Silas is lovely but dislike the others.

AllRiseForHerVaj · 30/05/2012 17:20

Silas. Drake and Ryder are foul.

CheerfulYank · 30/05/2012 18:25

Well of course they're names, Lisaro. Something like Tape Dispenser is not a name.

The question is whether they're good names or not.

PorkyandBess · 30/05/2012 18:27

I love Silas, reminds me of A level English!

Other 2 are not good.

NarkedPuffin · 30/05/2012 18:56

Agree Lisaro. Silas is the only name there.

Stellan · 30/05/2012 19:52

If you live in the UK, Silas is the only one you should really be considering. Ryder and Drake would stick out like a sore thumb here - and not in a good way! They might be more acceptable in the States where they seem to like names derived from surnames and animals.

Silas is the only one that is a first name in my eyes too.
