We really like this name but is it getting really really popular? We live in south west London if that makes any difference!!

My Florence is 11 years old and was the only one in her school of 300 until this year when one started in Reception. She loves her name and shortens it to Flo whether we like it or not!

foad Did you ever shorten it? I find myself calling DD "Florrie" a lot, I always intended on calling her Flossie and it's not happening Blush

Yeah I know 2 baby Florences'... I think it will date too... A few years ago didn't know anyone with this name, now it seems to be the 'in' name...

foad · 31/05/2012 11:17

3boys yes, we shorten her to Flossi at home (which she likes). Unless of course we are really cross with her then it's FLO-RENCE Wink!

Am in SW London, Florences are thick on the ground here. However, there a LOT of kids in this area so a lot of different names. Very few duplicates in my kids' large school, none in her class even though many are top 100 names. Name her what you like and don't worry about it.

Seem to be at least two or three every week in the national birth announcements, def one of most popular names at the mo.

I actually really like Florrie...:) it's pretty.
However, I do also know a Florence whose nickname was 'Flo the Ho' or 'Flo the Pro' for reasons which don't need explaining ;) just a warning for when they get to teenage age! (and we all know how cruel kids can be!)

BellaOfTheBalls · 03/06/2012 20:34

I am a Florence Smile

Its definitely getting more popular. I used to hear my name and know that people were talking to me (and as I go by a nn, panic because I'm only Florence when I'm in trouble Grin) but more often than not now they are talking to little girls!

NN's I know of or have heard - Flo, Florrie, Floss, Flossie, Rennie, Fizzy, Flora.
