Other than Joseph? I'm due in Oct and really like Jo for a boy but not sure about Joseph. Can it be short for any other boys names? Thanks!

Jolyon, Jonathon, Jodie, Josiah, Jodrell bank.
I am not keen on the name TBH, there are so many at every school DD has ever been to (5) and they all have an initial at the end. Joe L, Joe S, Joe P etc.

Oh, I did't realise it was so common! Thanks for letting me know Smile

I wouldn't have thought so either. Bear in mind, my DD is 11, there may be fewer young ones.

It's quite popular but a good name, usually spelt joe for a boy and jo for a girl.

Good to know about the spelling, I was wondering about that as I typed it

What about Jolyon?

Ragwort · 23/05/2012 08:13

Why not just use 'Joe' - it doesn't have to be short for anything, my DS has a 'shortened' name as his full name IYSWIM - he was christened with it and it is on his birth certificate. One or two people sometimes use the longer, formal version, it doesn't bother him, or me Grin.

Thanks for all the messages today and sorry for the slow reply, I've just got in from work! I'm going to have a proper look and a think once I've got DS to bed

Jonah
Jonty
Jody
Jobe (bloody fabulous but it means 'persecuted')

would be my picks.
