We have just had a baby girl. and have narrowed her name down to Hollie or Ava. We would love to hear your opinions on both.x

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Both are gorgeous, I would choose Ava

emsyj · 20/05/2012 20:41

There will be dozens of Avas, Evas and Evies in her class at school, so I would go with Hollie... Ava is a lovely name and therefore very popular. Hollie is nice too and more unusual, so I vote Hollie.

sum04 · 20/05/2012 20:43

Do you think that Hollie is more of a name given around the Xmas season though?

I like Holly. But only with a Y and only around Christmas time.

Ava is fine enough now. Hardly any around here, apparently it's very popular Ooop North.

Stellan · 20/05/2012 20:52

We have an Ava in my family. Think she is the only one in her nursery class but there is another in her year. Think there are a couple of Eves and Evies too.

I think both are great names but I'd go with Holly with a Y. The IE spelling looks a bit cutesy and 'wrong' to me but obviously sounds fine. You could always use Polly or Molly to be less Christmarry.

emsyj · 20/05/2012 21:01

I only know one Holly, have no idea when her birthday is. She's just an ex work colleague.

I am ooop North, perhaps the proliferation of Evas, Eves, Evies and Avas is peculiar to this region then!

peachypips · 20/05/2012 21:06

I know about fifty avas... But if you like it who cares!!

AKMD · 20/05/2012 21:09

Holly (-ie looks wrong, sorry). My friend's just called her baby this; it's a fab name :)

Vijac · 20/05/2012 21:12

I like both but I think i'd go with Holly. I love Heidi too (which for some reason I think is similar). I dislike Molly and Polly though. Congrats!

HeidiHole · 20/05/2012 21:16

Holly with a y

monkeymoma · 20/05/2012 21:18

Ava

or as a second choice Holly
but not Hollie!
doesn't have to be a christmas baby

Gdansk · 20/05/2012 21:51

Holly. With a 'y'. Hollie is awful.

Angellight · 20/05/2012 22:40

Holly lovely Ava ok but prefer Holly and with the y.

Chee · 20/05/2012 23:35

I have a friend called Holly and her birthday is in the Spring. It's a lovely name.

YouFloatLikeAFeather · 21/05/2012 08:37

Ava is pretty but I prefer Holly - lovely. I don't think it has to be a Christmas name; I know one born in August and I have to admit I never thought of the Christmas/winter connection.

And congratulations!

Prefer Ava to Hollie / y though I think it is quite popular.

Congratulations - let us know what you decide!!

PercyFilth · 21/05/2012 13:02

How is Holly seasonal?! I have a holly tree in my garden and it's there all the year round, it doesn't just appear at Christmas!

Agree that "Hollie" is awful, use the proper spelling please.

monkeymoma · 21/05/2012 13:13

I agree that I wouldn't personally call a christmas baby Holly, its.. a bit much IMO, but I would use the name at other times

Trestle · 21/05/2012 17:59

Holly
