Found out we are having a girl, it's our first baby so rather excited. These names are in our short list but also open to other suggestions. I don't want to choose a name that is 'on the up' so they become one of many in a few years time. Thanks :)

Which two would you go for and in what order?

Pearl
Violet
Autumn
Ella
Coral

Violet
Ella
Autumn

Would veto pearl and coral tbh

YouFloatLikeAFeather · 18/05/2012 08:25

Violet is absolutely lovely
Pearl is pretty

Don't really like Autumn or Coral, and Ella is too popular for me.

Neverdonethisbefore · 18/05/2012 08:28

Ella will be a middle name if chosen.

Violet and Iris - stealing one from Coconutty's list instead Smile

FondleWithCare · 18/05/2012 08:34

Top two would be Violet and Coral.

revolutionconfirmed · 18/05/2012 08:36

Violet is lovely. Ella is pretty but very popular. Dislike the others.

TinkerMaloo · 18/05/2012 08:52

My baby boy I am carrying now was going to be Violet if he was a girl. I love it :)

tigrou · 18/05/2012 08:58

Pearl is my favourite, lovely and unusual. I also think Autumn sounds nice, surprising myself because it's not my usual style, and Ella. Autumn Ella sounds lovely, but Pearl Ella is a bit clunky, too many LLLLLs. Also love Iris and Ivy as suggested. Going against the grain, I'm not very keen on Violet, and don't really like Coral.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 18/05/2012 08:59

Love Violet also like Autumn. Smile

manicinsomniac · 18/05/2012 09:00

I like Autumn and Ella. Violet is okay. I don't like the others.

Neverdonethisbefore · 18/05/2012 09:04

Thanks! The problem I am having is choosing the first name then adding Ella as a middle name. Most are sounding like a disease or some fungus! Think I might have to drop Ella as a middle name.

I have 2 friends already with an Iris each. I do like Ivy though, will add it to the list.

Baby is due in Oct hence the Autumn name.

Keep the opinions coming pls.

I really liked Autumn, baby was due in October, finally convinced hubby and then she was born premature in the hottest August ever (2003!). She is not called Autumn (and he vetoed Summer - which I am now glad of.) but I do think it is a lovely name (and of course if it is good enough for the royal family....)

My grandmother was Pearl and it is, fo rme, a beautiful, elegant name that is unassuming and yet still has impact - love it. Also like Violet.

Do not like Ella and am ambivalent about Coral.

PacketOfBiscuits · 18/05/2012 09:22

In order of preference...

Violet
Autumn
Coral
Pearl
Ella

Lunarlyte · 18/05/2012 09:53

My eldest daughter is Ella, so I am biased! I find that there are more Ellie's than Ella's around ... 'Ella' means "beautiful fairy girl" so it suits my girl a treat :) We hyphenated her name to give it extra meaning, but I couldn't give a monkeys about whether it's popular or not. As long a DH and I like it is all that matters.

Pearl is lovely - means 'precious'. I'm well into name meanings, me :) I'm not to keen on seasonal names, so Autumn would be at the bottom. I think seasonal names sound a bit dippy-hippy/wishy-washy IYSWIM.

keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 18/05/2012 10:04

I love Violet (one of my fave names for a girl)
I quite like Autumn but only if she is born in Autumn
Ella is nice, but I don't love it
not keen on Pearl or Coral TBH.

Popoozle · 18/05/2012 10:16

Love Violet, Autumn and Ella. I used to like Coral but now really don't - no good reason why though!

Not a fan of Pearl either TBH.

My current favourite girl's name is Ivy.

MarySA · 18/05/2012 10:33

Violet is absolutely lovely. I also like Pearl and quite like Coral though I've not heard it being used yet. Not so keen on Autumn.

redrubyshoes · 18/05/2012 10:47

I always see Violet as Violent and Coral is too close to Carol. Not keen on Autumn and would have doubts about being the Mother of Pearl.

Ella is pretty though.

Fussy? Moi? Wink

Stellan · 18/05/2012 10:48

If you don't want a name that is 'on the up', check them out on names.darkgreener.com/ You will be able to spot which ones have become increasingly popular over time and, as you say you don''t want a name on the up, you can rule them out.

Instinctively, I'd rule out Ella.

Of your list, I would pick either Pearl, Violet or Coral - they all sound very pretty and would suit a child or woman. (The only Corals I know are in their mid/late 20s.) Autumn is very pretty but it's not a name I would like to have so, for that reason, I'd rule it out.

tummytickler · 18/05/2012 12:45

I have a nearly 7 year old Pearl, so that is my favourite. Beautiful name imo!
Coral is my second favourite, and would be on my list again (along with Opal!) but can't have a Coral(or Opal) with a Pearl!
Violet is lovely.
Autumn is nms, not sure i like it, although ds has a lovely one in his class at school.
Not keen on Ella.

Pearl, Coral and Violet are my favourites.
(I also have an 11 year old Iris, so like that too!)

Pasiphae · 18/05/2012 12:52

Pearl is my favorite too.
I think it is becoming more used as a middle name, but seldom seen in first position.

I like Violet second, it's lovely but more on the up than Pearl.

And Coral 3rd, the L feel extra. I like Cora better or go all the way to Coralie/Coraline.
I am not really keen on Autumn and Ella.

CoolRunnings · 18/05/2012 13:14

Please use Pearl, my dp hates it but its my favourite girls name. I wish I could use it.

ArthurandGeorge · 18/05/2012 13:19

I think that Pearl and Violet are both on the up. I kinow one Violet and a friend has it as her dd's mn.

I agree that Cora or Coralie are better than Coral.

Quite like Autumn, not sure if that might be on the up too..I know one.

DottieRose · 18/05/2012 14:49

Violet Pearl would be my pick, I have been considering Violet on and off recently but it look like it is on the up big time I had a look on darkgreener.com/ and that really put me off as I would hate it to be ultra common like Lily!
