Does my favourite girls name go with surname?

For years and years I have loved the name Alice.

But now my surname is Lucas. At first I thought it didn't work - something to do with the about the repeated L and S sounds. Perhaps it doesn't flow as well as my 2nd favourite name. But now I'm thinking, actually it might be ok.

Does Alice Lucas work?

It sounds good when said with the middle name I want, but seeing as most people are only known by first and last name- they still need to work together -so I'm not mentioning the middle name.

Hmmm there is something a big tongue twister about it. I wouldn't worry though if you love it.

janie2 · 17/05/2012 21:50

can't see a problem myself but then Alice is also my fave name!

GreenMarrow · 17/05/2012 21:50

bit

MoonHare · 17/05/2012 22:17

Ally Slucas, yes I see what you mean.

We have a very similar issue with our surname and have had to give up first names ending in 's' sounds, including Alice, which I love too.

What's your second favourite?

nightswimmer · 17/05/2012 22:24

It is a lovely name. I don't think it matters that much that the surname doesnt go fantastically well. Mostly, people will be calling her Alice, that's the sound she will hear and you will say time and time again!

PacketOfBiscuits · 17/05/2012 22:52

I don't think it flows well, sorry.

How about Alicia Lucas, Alyssa Lucas, Alison Lucas, Alexandria Lucas?

NaughtyBusterAndTheBumFactory · 17/05/2012 22:54

Alice is a great name!!

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 18/05/2012 00:42

It's not the greatest surname to go with Alice, but it's not bad enough to not use a name you love.

You don't get called by your full name that often really so I can't see it being a massive problem as it's fine written down.

What is your maiden name? Could you double barrel?

Lunarlyte · 18/05/2012 09:45

Alice Lucas sounds gorgeous to me - really cute. What about Alicia if you wanted something to break up the 'L' sounds? x

keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 18/05/2012 09:48

I think its fine Smile

GoPoldark · 18/05/2012 11:54

It's ok. It doesn't flow well though.

But I'm not a fan of Alice so shoudl hold my hands up as not the best judge!

Sabriel · 18/05/2012 16:23

It's the SLucas bit that sounds wrong, not the L sounds.

My name has a similar hitch (with different letters) and I often think it sounds really stupid when I'm saying it to someone I don't know.

Lannie33 · 18/05/2012 16:50

Nothing wrong w Alice Lucas. Not the best combo ever, but definately not bad enough to not use a name you love.

AWomanCalledHorse · 18/05/2012 17:18

It sounds alright...slightly clunky!
Would you use Alison Lucas nn Alice?

beccabubbless · 19/05/2012 13:33

alice is a beautiful name but i dont think it goes very well with lucas!
youve got a difficult sirname im having exactly the same trouble

but on the other hand, if you love the name alice it will always sound perfect to you so what does it matter what others think?
x

nasara · 19/05/2012 13:52

I don't think Alice Lucas really goes, but maybe you could double-barrel Alice, or use something like Alicia, so the nn could be Alice, but when you would hear the two names together they would flow nicely.

Gdansk · 19/05/2012 19:20

Its a pretty name, who caresif it doesnt 'flow'?! There are people out there with horrendous surnames like Pratt and Ramsbottom. Its fine.

Littleviolet · 19/05/2012 19:28

I wouldn't have noticed a problem with it tbh.
