Final name short list...two weeks to go, argh!

So with only two weeks left (but feeling like things may happen sooner...eek!) the name short list is:

Lila/Lylah/Lilah
Amber
Emilia (Emmie or Millie for short)

Middle name will probably be Grace or Beth and surname is Rose.

What do you think?

None would be my choice if I'm honest but they are all fine choices. I'm going to plump for Amber as it just seems a bit more distinctive than the other 2.

jenrose29 · 14/05/2012 22:02

P.s. If you don't really like any of them, I'm still open to suggestions :)

Emilia Beth Rose would be my choice. Good luck!!

EdithWeston · 14/05/2012 22:04

I would go for Emilia Grace.

The first group are all Lily variants which would just be too flowery with your surname, and Amber Rose also sounds a bit like a horticultural description.

smother · 14/05/2012 22:06

What a beautiful surname you lucky things

I like Amber but Amber Rose runs into each other and sounds like Ambrose

so I'd vote for Lila if pushed. really really don't like Emilia.

To be honest, my favs are Beth or Grace... What about Elizabeth Grace Rose. Lovely!!

Hooleywhipper · 14/05/2012 22:09

Oh yes smoother I think you've got it. Fine suggestion

Hooleywhipper · 14/05/2012 22:09

Oops smother,sorry

jenrose29 · 14/05/2012 22:10

Ha didn't think of Ambrose - I agree!

I like Elizabeth but don't like it being shortened to Liz which is likely...

I love Lila Grace Rose. Very pretty!

Stellan · 14/05/2012 22:17

I think I like Amber because it's more distinctive than other jewel-themed names like Ruby and Jade. Of all the names I can think of in that category, I like Pearl the best.

Lilah is very popular on MN - maybe in real life too - but it sounds a little like 'liar' to me. It's a shame because I think it looks very pretty written down. Lilac is an interesting alternative but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough!

Based on the names you've posted, I think you ought to consider Sadie, Camilla (Milly), Ivy, Willa, Elodie, Isla, Eliza, Cecilia, Eleri, Ellery, Emma, Melia, Dinah, Delia, Cordelia, Blythe, Maia/Maya, Gaia, Iris, Cleo, and Camellia too.

This one might be a bit 'out there' but how about Elysia ('from Elysium') instead of Emilia? Bit different to Emilia, Alyssa, and Elissa and sounds similar to Emilia.

But I don't think any of the choices on your short list would be bad, really - just not to my taste (as they are not distinctive enough: too many Emilys, Amelias, Amelies and Emilias; too many Layla, Lyla, Leelas; and Amber might just be a touch 80s/90s but it's definitely my favourite).

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/05/2012 22:17

Lila Beth Rose. Lila Beth when said together sounds a bit like Elizabeth.

What about Leila? I also know an Ember, which is a beautiful name.

Stellan · 14/05/2012 22:23

How about Tabitha? You could use the nickname Tibby.

jenrose29 · 14/05/2012 22:27

I like Elysia but may be shortened to El/Ellie and DD is Ellie. DP doesn't like Tabitha. I quite like Lisabeth (as in girl with the dragon tattoo) but think people would pronounce it lisa-beth and again might be shortened to Liz. Know a horrible Leila!

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/05/2012 22:32

Haha, then definetly don't go with Leila.

Lori / Laurie
Elspeth
Luna

Stellan · 14/05/2012 22:32

I'm not sure that a baby girl born today called Elizabeth will be nickname Liz. She might be:
Beth
Bess
Betsy
Betty
Bette
Buffy
Eliza
Elle
Elsie
Elsa
Izzy
Lizzy
Lisa
Liza
Lizbeth
Lise
Liddy
Libby
Tibby

You could always spell it Elisabeth to discourage the 'Liz' nickname but you may find yourself saying 'Elisabeth with an S' a lot. Elisabetta is an interesting continental choice. And Elspeth is cute but probably way too close to Ellie.

I think the Queen went by Lillibet as a child.

Stellan · 14/05/2012 22:37

You might like Pippa too - gets away from the heavy vowel sounds of Ellie and Emilia, Ellie and Amber, Ellie and Lyla.

oikopolis · 14/05/2012 22:46

Lila Grace is Kate Moss's daughter i think. I do like that combo though!

Amber Rose is the name of an American stripper-turned-Kanye-West's-girlfriend, who is now dating Wiz Khalifa, another rapper.

she's obviously not high-profile in the UK, since no-one has mentioned her yet, but she is definitely a tabloid fixture in the US. and i have seen her featured in the Daily Fail Mail too. mostly in pearl-clutching articles involving her wearing a bikini in the Caribbean after putting on a bit of weight etc.

so i would avoid that tbh. just in case she shoots to more fame in the UK over the next few years...

Emilia Grace Rose is probably your best bet. though personally not too keen on Emilia since Emma, Amelia, Amelie, etc are so popular, she'll be spelling her name out all the time.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 14/05/2012 23:10

All lovely.

Lyla/Lila is very pretty, but there are so many Lolas and Islas I think it will get confused and won't stand out as the very pretty name it is.

Amber is nice, but a bit meh

Emilia is too popular

Beth is lovely

Grace is lovely

I like;

Lila Grace
Emilia Grace
Grace Emilia

NadiaWadia · 15/05/2012 03:38

Lila or Lilah is lovely.

NadiaWadia · 15/05/2012 03:39

Emilia is OK but prefer Emily or Amelia.

Amber is OK.

PercyFilth · 15/05/2012 12:52

Rose is a lovely surname, but the problem is that it is also a wildly popular middle name. So your daughter's full name is in danger of sounding like other girls' forenames.

For this reason I'd be looking for something much more distinctive and certainly outside the top 100 names.

GnocchiNineDoors · 15/05/2012 12:54

Frankie
Phoebe
Freya
Nadine

RomyMadison · 15/05/2012 13:49

I think lilah is cute when she's a small girl but imagine her going into a job interview when she's 30 and saying lilah...hm..i do love amber though it have gorgeous connotations

jenrose29 · 15/05/2012 20:36

How about Bethan?

OP posts:
Bellakins · 15/05/2012 23:20

Emilia Grace very pretty IMO
