Opinions on Tigran

DH is Armenian (a small but very proud highlander folk in Caucasus Mountains). He's adamant about giving his newborn son the name Tigran /tig-ran/. It goes well with his last name.
Should we go for it?
Or is he going to be doomed to be teased for the rest of his miserable life?

Tig as in tigger or tiger?

EdithWeston · 10/05/2012 20:14

It's not a name I've ever come across before, but I think it's one that would grow on me. And Tig is a lovely NN.

CupOfBrownJoy · 10/05/2012 20:16

If its an Armenian name then fair enough

If you and your DH were both British, I would perhaps think "Vauxhall Tigran"....

PineappleBed · 10/05/2012 20:17

Well what do you think of that name? Always bewildered by the number of ppl on MN saying "DH has decided on x name".

If you like it too then I'm sure the child will cope, if you don't then its off the table.

I think its okay.

This isn't meant to be an aresy post but it seems to be coming out that way...sorry!

Frontpaw · 10/05/2012 20:19

I did think car but is that a problem? Its not a bad name...

Isn't there any pther name - maybe a version of George (wasn't Saint George Armenian?).

DogEared · 10/05/2012 20:53

I also thought car, sorry.

AThingInYourLife · 10/05/2012 20:55

I like it.

Do you?

orienteerer · 10/05/2012 20:57

Sounds like a VW Tiguan

Keetten · 11/05/2012 11:56

Thanks everyone for your replies. You are awesome.
Psammead Tig as in Tigger. Got him a cute Tigger sleepsuit already.
PineappleBed pretty reasonable point.
We've wanted to call our son Tigran for ages but when I've had him I suddenly started having second thoughts. Hormones maybe...

So then we are decided. Tigran it is!

It sounds very Superhero and macho. I can imaging my DS (7) bouncing around saying 'stop! I am Ti-gran! I rather like that.

freerangeeggs · 11/05/2012 15:08

I think it's awesome. It makes me want to marry an Armenian highlander.

WithACherryOnTop · 11/05/2012 15:30

I love it.

I came on the thread to say nooooo, thinking it was made up, but no, it is cool, go for it.

BBQJuly · 11/05/2012 19:42

Never heard of it before but can't think of anything wrong with it, so why not? :)

seeker DH (long unruly hair) in a ring sling looks like Mel Gibson's William Wallace. Absolute head-turner in our small town.
Any ideas where I could get a tartan ring sling for the new daddy?

OP posts:
seeker · 12/05/2012 16:50

I have a friend who sells ring slings- shall I ask her? If I can find one can I deliver it personally?

( don't worry, I am certainly twice his age)

Keetten · 16/05/2012 19:39

seeker Yep, sure! 10 quid and you can touch it.
Highlander petting farm - sounds like a nice business idea. A bit double entendre though... Blush

touch HIM, not it! Gosh, how embarassing...
