Adam
Well known but will be uncommon in this generation. All the Adams I know are 25+

Jack

I know, I know, it's very popular but just love the name.

paddlepie · 10/05/2012 10:10

Should add, we have a very unusual surname which we always have to spell out so would like a recognisable, easy to spell first name. Don't want the poor boy to have to spell out his whole name all the time!

I love Jack too, my only niggle is the popularity. Think a popular first name with a weird unusual surname would be ok though?

Yes I think so, but I'm sure someone will come along and say you cannot possibly think of calling your child such a popular name. Smile

YouFloatLikeAFeather · 10/05/2012 10:20

Sebastian

Really don't like Aaron or Adam, and Jack and Samuel are far too popular at the moment.

pilates · 10/05/2012 10:24

wow, didn't think it would be that quick Grin

BonnieBumble · 10/05/2012 10:24

Jack

seeker · 10/05/2012 10:25

Adam.

VickyandAlistair · 10/05/2012 10:27

How long is your surname? If its short, Sebastian, if long, Adam :)

seeker · 10/05/2012 10:27

You could call him John and have Jack as a pet name. That's how it started out.

Then you have Johnny and Jonty as alternatives as well.

By the way, I know thousands of little boys, and I only know 3 Jacks.

BonnieBumble · 10/05/2012 10:28

I know Jack was the most popular boys name for about 10 years on the trot but I only know one Jack and I know a lot of children. I wouldn't worry about popularity of names. When ds1 started nursery there were about 5 boys called Louis in his class and yet Louis wasn't even that high in the top 100.

Booette · 10/05/2012 11:12

I know loads of Adams, so I wouldn't say it was unpopular with this generation.

I love Sebastian. I like Samuel and Jack, though they are very popular too.

Not keen on Aaron.

WithACherryOnTop · 10/05/2012 11:18

I love all of them, other than Jack. It's ok,but every second boy seems to be called Jack.

If your surname is as described then I'd go with Adam.

Wildwaterfalls · 10/05/2012 11:23

Adam is very nice, classic, and easy with difficult surname.

Positiveplus · 10/05/2012 12:48

Jack

Momalicious · 10/05/2012 13:06

Sam is lovely! And not as common as Adam

NenNen · 10/05/2012 13:09

I have an Adam and he is the only one of his age group that I know of round these parts! He loves his name- occasional nn 'Ads'

Stellan · 10/05/2012 13:10

If your surname is really difficult, I'd rule out Aaron and Sebastian. Choose either Samuel (Sam), Jack or Adam - all of which are nice but have the bonus of being quite short and easy to say/spell.

Angellight · 10/05/2012 15:42

Adam and Samuel lovely
Aaron like
Jack -just know too many
Sebastian- really dislike this sorry

mathanxiety · 10/05/2012 16:01

Samuel.

Aaron is very 60s/70s, same with Adam
Jack - too popular
Sebastian - nn Seb very offputting to me

dawntigga · 10/05/2012 16:07

Samuel - but then I would ;)

MoonHare · 10/05/2012 16:57

CaptainHetty · 10/05/2012 17:00

I love Sebastian :)

PercyFilth · 10/05/2012 17:03

Adam. I don't like any of the others
