What names work with this surname?

The surname (not mine, so I'm not in danger of outing myself) is: Lee

It seems really difficult to find names that fit - does anyone have any suggestions?

Christopher..sorry not helpful Grin

Oubliette0292 · 10/05/2012 00:24

Yeah, yeah - not heard that one before (ditto Vivien).

Also to be avoided: Sara, Frank, Paul, Rosie, Eva, Peter, Keith etc. (Lee seems to be a surname that is particularly prone to unfortunate name choices).

I can't understand why oubliette sees that certain names need to be avoided - apart from sara or paul, I think the others are fine. I think perhaps 2 syllable names may give Lee some extra length, but are not necesarily required...

My favourite would be Kevin though - think its a gorgeous name and would be lovely with Lee.

simpletwistoffate let me explain:

Sara Lee = consumer goods company
Frank Lee = Frankly
Paul Lee = Poorly
Rosie Lee = cockney rhyming slang for tea
Eva Lee = Evilly
Peter Lee = Peterlee (Co. Durham)
Keith Lee = Keighley (W. Yorks)

Bruce? Grin

David
Matthew
Graham
William
Marcus
Andrew
Herbert.... loads of boys names work, to be honest.

Jemima
Jessica
Philippa
Annika
Verity
Nancy
Annabel
Mary... loads of girls names work fine too.

Only ones I'd possibly discard are the Billy, Millie, Tilly type ones, as there's a limit to how often you want your tongue flapping up and down while trying to say a name.

Quentin Lee
Aidan Lee
Tristan Lee

Alexandra Lee
Charlotte Lee
Imogene Lee

Turquoisecat · 10/05/2012 09:54

Not William - all of the shortened versions are terrible combinations (Will, Bill, Billy), especially Will Lee!

Turquoisecat · 10/05/2012 09:59

Simon Lee
Arthur Lee

Megan Lee
Penelope Lee

namechangersmum · 10/05/2012 09:59

avoid phoebe

phoebe lee (feebly)

pilates · 10/05/2012 10:15

Jared or Joshua

Elizabeth or Charlotte

shoobidoo · 10/05/2012 12:11

Will Lee Grin

I'd also avoid any name that gets shortened to something ending in -ie like Charlie Lee, Eddie Lee. Think names ending in a consonant sound best.

tammytoby · 10/05/2012 12:24

I think an (unshortenable) two syllable name not ending in the 'ee' goes best:

Simon Lee
Robin Lee
Quentin Lee
Tristan Lee

Tamsin Lee
Erin Lee
Megan Lee
Sarah Lee

Stellan · 10/05/2012 12:41

Albert Lee
Andrew Lee
Barnabas Lee
James Lee
Frederick Lee
Michael Lee
Finnian Lee
Simon Lee

Caroline Lee
Juliet Lee
Harriet Lee
Susannah Lee
Georgiana Lee
Penelope Lee
Marina Lee
Scarlett Lee

Elizabeth and Catherine Lee sound nice but not Lizzie Lee and Katie Lee so maybe I ought not to suggest them to you!

I'd just avoid anything that's short and/or ends in an 'ee' sound or could sound like an adverb (e.g. Flora Lee, Evie Lee).

Positiveplus · 10/05/2012 12:47

Of the 'Lees' I know they are:

Gemma
Joni

Stuart
Andrew

tammytoby · 10/05/2012 14:24

But Finnian Lee could become Finn Lee with people misunderstanding it for Finley.... And Penelope could become Penny Lee...
