What do you make of this?

I suppose the fact it's in the Daily Mail says a lot...

There is a thread here
And another one in the adoptions topic.

I think the last sentence sums up the British attitude towards names compared to others:

"The Americans say that any American child has the right to grow up and be President. So, who knows, with a few more common sense rules in the adoption system, little Chardonnay might one day grow up to be Prime Minister. Sadly, as things stand, it?s highly unlikely"

And I doubt that Condoleezza Rice would have been as succesful in the UK as the US...

"Condoleezza" is a mistake. It is a misreading of the musical term "con dolcezza" (with sweetness). Someone thought the 'c' was an 'e'. Embarrassing.

Surely nicknames would be perfectly possible? Chrystal - Chris, Chrissy, Christie, and Chardonnay - Charlie, or Donna?

Very sad that names have such strong reactions to some people... To think how desperate couples are to adopt and they are put off by someone's name?! Perhaps they should re-locate to the US where people seem more open minded.

I couldn't read all the link as it seemed to disappear, but have they changed the rules, my cousin was adopted in 1973 and my aunt and uncle changed her name.

I think its a load of twaddle lol, i can't believe for a second that any one adopting a child (anyone normal lol) would hesitate because of a childs name, typical daily fail

squoosh · 10/05/2012 16:23

I agree, it's Daily Mail nonsense. The lengths people go to to adopt a child and then say 'nah, we'll only adopt if she's called Florence'. I don't think so.
