We are expecting DC4 (DS2) and I have been trying to draw up a shortlist of possibilities. I have run them past DH and haven't met with any enthusiasm yet but he tends not to be v interested until the last couple of weeks so not too worried yet!
Here goes (no particular order):

Theodore
Elias
Fabian
Linus
Raphael
Jude
Hugo
Clement
Nathaniel
Rufus

Many thanks

Ooh, good list!

Love Theodore (like Ted for short), Elias, Jude and Clement (Clem is nice, very Attlee)

Not so keen on Fabian, Linus, Raphael, Hugo or Rufus, sorry, all a little posh in my mind

Nathaniel is nice but getting popular (as are the varients Nathan and Nate)

TeaTeaLotsOfTea · 01/05/2012 16:12

I like Fabian, Jude, Hugo and Rufus.

AWomanCalledHorse · 01/05/2012 16:19

Theodore- I like Theo & Ted, Theodore is a bit clunky for everyday (if that makes any sense)?
Elias- Like Elias, would you say it Eli-ass or Ee-lie-as?
Fabian- Fab!
Linus- Snoopy/peanuts blanket lover. Sorry.
Raphael- Like (was on our list)
Jude- Dislike
Hugo-Hate with a passion, Hugo the Troll was a crap video game growing up so all I see is a gurning troll.
Clement- Dislike
Nathaniel- Love (nn Nate!), would use if we didn't have so many Nathans in our life.
Rufus-Dogs name..or George Calin in Bill & Ted.

BBQJuly · 01/05/2012 16:42

Great list!

My favourites are Theodore, Elias, Clement, Nathaniel and Rufus.

Theodore - like
Elias - like
Fabian - a little pretentious
Linus - Snoopy
Raphael - a bit frilly
Jude - a bit feminine sounding
Hugo - too rah
Clement - like
Nathaniel - like
Rufus - like

MoonHare · 01/05/2012 16:55

Interesting list.

Theodore - like but agree with a bit much for everyday, Theo better than Ted as nn imo
Elias - don't like
Fabian - quite like this, makes me think of Fabian Society, which is great if you're left leaning in your politics
Linus - also makes me think of Snoopy
Raphael - not keen, bit flouncy
Jude - I like this but DH has vetoed. Jo Whiley's son is a Jude
Hugo - really dislike makes me think of a fat, sweaty, middle-aged banker.
Clement - this is growing on me
Nathaniel - don't like
Rufus - like this, we have a cat named Rufus (after the one in the Rescuers)

Badgerina · 01/05/2012 17:02

Theodore - I like Theo, but I'm not sure about the full version.

Elias - Don't like. Not keen on the sound.

Fabian - Fabian Society! Left-thinking, socialist think tank = awesome. (it is a teeny bit "upper-class-fop" which personally I don't mind, but...)

Linus - Peanuts. Brilliant. Love it.

Raphael - It's ok. I studied Art History at University so would never get away with this. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (this is a good thing).

Jude - I love this name. Unfortunately so do an increasing number of people.

Hugo - This one is growing on me recently. It's a LOT better than Mungo.

Clement - Nope.

Nathaniel - Beautiful, wonderful and gorgeous. My favourite from your list.

Rufus - Really not sure about this name. Which probably means no!

poppy283 · 01/05/2012 17:04

I like Theodore and Rufus best.

eatyourveg · 01/05/2012 17:08

Theodore - as long as you don't mind everyone saying Theo
Elias - ok
Fabian - no!
Linus - snoopy, reminds me of a grubby blanket
Raphael - not bad I suppose
Jude - great!
Hugo - even greater
Clement - no! forever associate with Clement Freud "Henry and I like Pedigree Chum" advert tho I do know a Clem which I concede isn't too bad
Nathaniel - cool
Rufus - yes yes yes!!

So I'd go for Rufus Hugo or Nathaniel Jude

StrawberryMojito · 01/05/2012 17:10

Really like Nathaniel and Rufus. Not so keen on the rest.

tomverlaine · 01/05/2012 17:44

Theodore - love this name and nn Theo
Elias- don't like reminds me of Alias
Fabian - seems increasingly common (i go to a class where there are 2 and a fabio)
Linus - snoopy
Raphael - too trendy at mo like Gabriel
Jude - love Jude
Hugo - too popular
Clement- love clem
Nathaniel - i like the full name and I like Nat but don't like Nathan which I think you'd get
Rufus - i like this but always sounds like a redheaded child

shockers · 01/05/2012 18:02

I actually like Linus, but I do imagine someone a bit snuffly because it rhymes with sinus. Also like Jude, Hugo, Clement and Rufus.

Yama · 01/05/2012 18:04

Theodore - love
Elias - not keen
Fabian - dislike
Linus - dislike (a lot)
Raphael - love, love love
Jude - love
Hugo - like
Clement - no
Nathaniel - fine
Rufus - no

VerilyMerrily · 01/05/2012 18:05

LOVE Nathaniel and Elias
LIKE Jude, Raphael
OK Hugo. Theodore
BAD: Clement, Fabian, Rufus the Doofus
GOD AWFUL: Linus

FrauGrau · 01/05/2012 19:48

Apart from Linus a great list! well done you!!

joymaker · 01/05/2012 19:58

Agree with FrauGrau above.

Hugo, Elias,Theodore, Fabian and Rufus would be my order of preference.

8mo ds is a Raphael (it's not trendy, nor is Gabriel. They're biblical fGs). Grin He's usually referred to as Rafa or Raffy or Rafe though.

I love Elias and Rufus too. I like most of your list actually. We also liked Amos, Abraham (Bram), Sacha, Erasmus (ds's middle name), Emrys, Caspar, Wilf as well as a couple on your list.

NB our Raphael was named by dd. Her favourite programme is the Ninja Turtles.

cece · 01/05/2012 22:02

Theodore - ummm, not sure
Elias - not keen
Fabian - no
Linus - Snoopy?
Raphael - are you Italian?
Jude - girls name imo
Hugo - like
Clement - awful
Nathaniel - prefer Nathan, but do know one who is known as Nat
Rufus - this has grown on me a bit since I first heard it but I still think of it as a dogs name

I would say that none of them are really my cup of tea (sorry) but from your list I would go for Hugo.

Springforward · 01/05/2012 22:05

Baby name word association to follow.

Theodore - I like this, but would probably use Ted or Teddy
Elias - not sure how to pronounce it
Fabian - as in Society, and all I can think of now is Fabienne, so am thinking it's a bit feminine (even though I know that doesn't make sense)
Linus - wasn't he the one with the blanket in Peanuts?

Raphael - like this, have one in the family, he's Rafa, his DM is Spanish
Jude - I quite like this, but probably wouldn't use because of the Jude/ Judas confusion
Hugo - not for me
Clement - as in Attlee
Nathaniel - I like this, but like Nathan more
Rufus - as in Hound

Booette · 01/05/2012 22:07

The only two I'm not keen on are Hugo and Clement. The rest I love!

5inthebed · 01/05/2012 22:10

Theodore - Lovely, Ted for short?
Elias - Nope
Fabian - Nope, sounds like the long haired character on the front of a Mills & Boon book (sorry)
Linus - cool name
Raphael - Just lovely
Jude - It's ok
Hugo - Lovely
Clement - No, just ...no
Nathaniel - Lovely
Rufus - Nope

EightiesChick · 01/05/2012 22:11

Like Theodore (prob as Theo for everyday) and Clement.

mumofjust1 · 01/05/2012 22:15

Theodore - love

Elias - ok

Fabian - not sure

Linus - love

Raphael - ok

Jude - quite common (as in used by many!)

Hugo - like

Clement - no

Nathaniel - see Jude

Rufus - no

Linus and Theodore are my favourites :)

Scruffybear · 01/05/2012 22:19

Like Theo, and think Theo/ted both nice nn
Like Jude, but have met more of them round our way, so maybe more about than with your other names.
Like Raphael, for some reason Hugo strikes me as more stuffy, not keen on clement, but also like nathaniel and rufus.
Good luck!

justanothermanicmonday · 02/05/2012 08:58

Do you think that Fabian, Clement and possibly Raphael will perceived as a bit feminine in this country?
I don't find them feminine but wonder how others may see them.

I'm not too worried about being a little pretentious (not deliberately so though). Grin.
