The hubby and I found out this week that we're expecting our first! We're so excited, we're already short listing names! So what do you all think of Anara if it is a girl? We're struggling with a boy's name... but the shortlist already has Dexter and Logan on it... thoughts on that too? We realise we still have 9 months but want to "live" with the name to see if we go off it by the due date. Thank you! :)

only name i like is logan .... but its your baby .

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 26/04/2012 23:41

Logan is horrible.
Dexter is great if it's a puppy, if not then no.
Is Anara pronounced the same as Ainara? Uh-na-rah. I know one and I think it's quite pretty.

toobreathless · 27/04/2012 01:07

Anara: sounds made up, sorry! But LOVE Anna.
Or Amara, Amira, Annabel?

Logan: strongly dislike sorry, too American.

Dexter: ok, bit 'trendy' for me.

What about:
Luca/Lucas
Ethan
Ellis
Evan

toobreathless · 27/04/2012 01:07

& congratulations!

BunnyLebowski · 27/04/2012 01:37

Anara - sounds like you stuck your hand into a hat full of pieces of paper with vowels on them and...voila.

Dexter - A dog, an underage animated lab worker or a sociopathic TV serial killer.

Logan - Long haired beefcake lifeguard from Home & Away circa 1992. Or Michael York.

lisaro · 27/04/2012 02:35

Congratulations. But sorry - Dexter is, as some one said, a pet's name. Loganis not to my taste but I guess some people like it. Anara? Sounds like s made up by a five year old 'princess' name. Silly.

foxeeroxee · 27/04/2012 03:12

Yes some people like logan...its ds2's name!
Grin
Not a fan of the others but what about aurora? It has a similar sound to anara.
Congratulations btw!!

Stellan · 27/04/2012 08:21

I've never come across Anara. I find it really hard to say. I want to say Honora or Amara; I find Anara an awkward in-between sort of name because I'm familiar with the other two! What's Anara's history? Background? Meaning, history, namesakes, etc.?

Dexter and Logan feel very 'current' and 'now' and 'pop culture' so I think will date quickly. They also have an American feel to them too. But, really, there's nothing wrong with either - just not my own personal taste.

tammy234 · 27/04/2012 08:48

Anara sounds pretty, is easy to spell/pronounce and is not overused.

I really dislike Logan. Dexter is ok.

KazzaBaz · 01/05/2012 20:27

Thanks for all the opinions... they're pretty varied! :) We may have to think of more and have another shot...

Dislike Dexter. Quite like Logan.

Anara is interesting. Sounds made up, but not in a terrible way.

Good luck!

How about

Talia
Anouk
Blythe

Heath
Rory
Felix

Frikadellen · 01/05/2012 20:58

Ooooh firstly big congrats - SUCH an exciting time, i remember you EXACT feeling with my first pg 9 years ago and again when having my son who's now 3! Grin

I love choosing names, although we rarely agree and my 'taste' changes with each pregnancy:

Amara Grin much nicer than Anara - or how about Affia, Amira, Saskia, Sasha, maybe Susannah, Georgia, Annalise, Honor, Heather, Sadie, Hermione.

Sorry not keen on Logan or Dexter i to thnk they feel American and very now' (again nothing wrong with that just not my personal taste!)

How about

Jonah
Jude
Gabriel
Dominic
Leo
Theo
Saul
Samuel
Henry
Harry
William
Elijah
Ethan
Lucas

Thanks for the new posts too!

I'm really liking some of the boy's name suggestions, DH and I are finding it really hard to come up with any boy's name that we both like and sticks around for a while. For the last few years we had Leon as the only boy's name we would ever think of using for our first boy (not previously pg, we were bored on a long haul flight once!), but now DH hates it!! I always wanted Finn, but DH's boss got there first so he doesn't want to have a Finn as well. So MN input has been very useful.

Let's hope it's a girl so we don't have to worry about the name! I think Anara is a keeper... until DH decides to go off that one too... ;)
