Absolutely fine.

Two popular, Biblical names.

The names aren't going to set anyone's world on fire but they are solid and sensible and, crucially, will grow with your son.

Only hesitation I have is that Ethan is a bit on trend, having increased from the 92nd most popular name in 1996 to 13th this year.

WheresMyCow · 26/04/2012 11:20

Lovely names...do they go well with your surname? Smile

TheDetective · 26/04/2012 11:24

My son is Ethan (he is 10!) and his middle name is Rhys. His name flows beautifully together, and his surname too!

If it flows with your surname, then yes its lovely. I ummed and ahhed about Ethan Jacob at one point... but for him Ethan Rhys flowed well!

roguepixie · 26/04/2012 11:26

Love the name Ethan, always have. Goes well with Joshua too. Very nice combination.

tummytickler · 26/04/2012 13:07

Not a fan of Ethan or Joshua. But its not my baby - they are totally inoffensive, I just don't like them very much.

tammytoby · 26/04/2012 14:04

I don't really like either of them, sorry. But thankfully we all have different tastes! The purpose of naming people is so we can identify then so the wider name variety we have, the better Smile.

tammytoby · 26/04/2012 14:05

them, not then.

PercyFilth · 26/04/2012 14:18

I don't like Ethan because for me, there's something a bit chemical-sounding about it.

tbh I don't like Joshua much either. Not that I ever hear the full version, it's always just Josh, isn't it? Millions Lots of them round here.

evamummy · 26/04/2012 14:36

I don't like Ethan but Joschua is ok.

evamummy · 26/04/2012 14:36

sorry Joshua.

BBQJuly · 26/04/2012 16:51

Very nice names, and go well together :)

exoticfruits · 26/04/2012 16:54

I like Joshua.

applepieinthesky · 26/04/2012 18:56

Joshua is ok but I really dislike Ethan for some reason.

DustyDen · 26/04/2012 19:48

They're both really lovely.

RetroMum1 · 26/04/2012 19:54

I think they're lovely and go well together.

oikopolis · 26/04/2012 21:07

very inoffensive. popular names too i think. i know many little Ethans and a pile of Joshuas too.

if you have a very common surname it might help to go with something more unusual - simply because if DS ever needs to promote himself professionally it can be annoying when someone else in your field has the same name (i speak from experience)

besides that, you can't go wrong really.

tammy234 · 26/04/2012 21:34

Dislike Ethan, sorry. Joshua is ok. I think a one syllable middle name would work better with Ethan.

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 26/04/2012 23:41

Lovely

MarySA · 26/04/2012 23:54

I'm not too keen personally on Ethan. But I don't mind Joshua. There is nothing wrong with either name. And it's all a matter of taste.
