Longer middle name than first name - can't agree

dh and I cannot agree on girls name and it is driving me crazy. I am 32 weeks so although I have lots of time, I am going overseas to have the baby at 36 weeks and dh will stay here. I will probably name the baby before dh meets him / her.

We have found a few names, but cannot find any that 'flow' is it weird to have a middle name longer than the first?

Names we both like ( but neither of us love) are
Juliette
Sasha
Bridgette
Tess
Clara
Annalise
Jade
Callie
Esme
Paige

I love Autumn and Teagan, he loves Holly and Lily. We are really struggling!

Any suggestions for a name that flows would be gratefully appreciated.
Cheers!

No! I don't think it is. Although certain short names are very common as middle names, I have known people with longer middle names and it doesn't sound odd at all.

My son has a short first name and last name, and two very long middle names, they sound fine. (One is my surname and his sisters have that too.)

We chose a longer middle name deliberately because we'd chosen a shorter first name, with a two-syllable surname. Ideally I'd have gone for a 3+ syllable first name but the name we liked best is just two. It all flows very well.

With the names you or your DH love, how about...

Autumn Jade
Esme Autumn
Lily Bridgette
Lily Colette
Holly Matilda
Holly Megan
Holly Vanessa
Ruby Autumn
Teagan Clara
Teagan Fiona
Teagan Sorella

Other names:
Bridgette/Juliette - how about Antoinette, Colette, Harriet?
Clara/Sasha - how about Anna, Hannah, Onora, Sara, Zara?
Callie/Esme - how about Chloe, Jacqui, Lucy, Phoebe, Verity, Zoe?
Jade/Paige/Tess - how about Blythe, Hope, Kate, Ruth?

My 18 month old DD is Erin Juliana and I think it flows nicely!

mathanxiety · 23/04/2012 20:33

I don't think a longer middle name is odd at all. It can flow very nicely in fact. DD2 has this combo and the names work very well imo. DD3 and DD4 have the opposite and their names work well too imo.

From the names you have there, I like
Clara Juliette
Tess Anneliese
Bridget Esme
Bridget Anneliese
Juliet Anneliese
Anneliese Jade
Jade Esme
Jade Anneliese
Esme Anneliese
Juliette Esme

I'm not really keen on Lily, Holly, Autumn or Teagan, sorry.

All my dc have two syllables then three then one in surname. Got to do it again for dc4 now Grin I think it flows best with our surname like that. So not strange for me!

poppy283 · 24/04/2012 08:25

Thinking about it I know lots of longer middle name girls, I have one and so does Dd. much prefer that to short middle names like may, rose, etc, that just feel like padding iykwim?

5madthings · 24/04/2012 08:28

its not odd at all, two of my 5 have two middle names so they are def longer than their first names, it never occured to me that it may be odd to have a middle name that is longer than a first name!

welovesausagedogs · 24/04/2012 08:56

I think Autumn Lily sounds really pretty together.

ripsishere · 24/04/2012 09:01

Autumn Lilly sounds like a late flowering plant to me.
Of your initial list I like Esme,Clara and Lily. what about Magali, Ottolien, Lydia, Jane, Violet, Julia, Ellen, Anna.
It is very difficult but please don't call her Teagan.

DD's middle names are Florence Alexandra. Her first name is only 5 letters! (I've outed myself enough there.) I think it sounds fine, better than two short names in my opinion, I think that can sound quite 'harsh'.
