What do you think of Rosalind?

Okay, after a lot of sarcasm good-natured debate, DH and I have finally found a girl's name we love, Rosalind, to be shortened to Rosa or Rosie while she is tiny.

If she is a girl, that is. Clearly it might need a rethink if we have a boy.

Our children have two middle names, family tradition, so this baby would be:

Rosalind Something Jill Surname (1 syllable). Jill is staying as it was my late mother's name. Surname begins with N.

Help us think of a replacement for Something?

I think Rosalind is a lovely name!

Are there any good family names on DH's side?

Some possibilities for "something": Mary, Sarah, Clara, Sadie?

BBQJuly · 23/04/2012 00:09

Very pretty name.

For "Something" how about Elizabeth, Amelia, Sophia?

toobreathless · 23/04/2012 00:44

LOVE Rosalind.

Rosalind Elizabeth Jill
Rosalind Beatrice Jill
Rosalind Eleanor Jill
Rosalind Maria Jill
Rosalind Mercy Jill
Rosalind Frances Jill
Rosalind Fiona Jill
Rosalind Mary Jill
Rosalind Iris Jill
Rosalind Cara Jill

Also agree with above poster that Rosalind Clara Jill is lovely.

SunflowersSmile · 23/04/2012 07:08

Love Rosalind. Stop people calling her Roz though - only downside.

wem · 23/04/2012 07:14

I love Rosalind, it's dd2's name :). I know an adult Rosalind who has been Rosie all her life. It's unlikely she'd go back to Rosalind if you've always called her Rosa or Rosie. But then if you stick with the full name, as we have, you won't be able to stop people calling her Ros.

DD2 is Rosalind Olivia :)

MoonHare · 23/04/2012 11:50

LOVE the name Rosalind - great choice.

My thoughts are that with a longer first name then shorter middle names work best (I speak as the bearer of long first, middle and surnames and it never fits on the line!).

Middle name ideas; Evelyn, Phoebe, Kate, Eliza, Viola, Imogen, Verity, Esther, Anna.

MagsAloof · 23/04/2012 12:33

It's nice, but not my favourite 'rose' name.

I refer just Rosa, but also like Rosanna and Rosalie better.

whippetwoman · 23/04/2012 12:34

I think I would go with Celia as she is the other female lead in As You Like It, the Shakespeare play in which Rosalind is the heroine. Or maybe another Shakespeare heroine such as (previously suggested) Viola, Olivia, Miranda or Hermione. That's just me though!

One of my very good friends is a Rosalind but she is exclusively know as Ros.

whippetwoman · 23/04/2012 12:35

KNOWN as Ros. Doh.

It's a goer, then! Yippee!

I will run Cara, Clara, Cerys and Seren past DH (he has Welsh forbears) and then start thinking seriously about boy names.

Dexter? No?

Rosalind is a lovely name!
My mum was supposed to be rosalind but my grandad spelt it wrong when she was registered and spelt it Rozalynne. Grin

openerofjars · 23/04/2012 17:51

Ooh, Stranded, v good choices. Already vetoed by DH over here, though. Sad

I bloody love the name Lucien, too.

Puddy, I will be accompanying DH to the registry office because he spelt DS's name wrong recently , don't worry!

An adult Rosalind I know has always been known as Lindy.

Kaekae · 24/04/2012 01:24

I prefer Rosalyn.

SkaterGrrrrl · 19/05/2012 22:35

We have a 2 year old Rosalind - biased but I think its lovely, classic but seldom used. She is called Rosie, Rosa, Lindy and Roz by various relatives.

Bearcrumble · 20/05/2012 06:58

Rosalind is very nice.

If you're thinking Welsh for boys' names I like Peredur and Estlin.

whatsonyourplate · 20/05/2012 16:17

I like it. I also like Rosalyn.

Stellan · 20/05/2012 17:01

I think it's wonderful. Great choice.

Also like Rose, Rosa, Róisín, Rosemary, Rosalie, Primrose, Rosamund!

Don't like Rosanna, Rosalynn or Rosabel (just seem like mash-ups).

Rosalba, Rosario and Rosaria are interesting choices too!

wearymum200 · 20/05/2012 20:03

I love Rosalind and also Rosamund, but I have a 3 syllable R surname so couldn't use it. Mair, Eirlys, Elen as middle name?

SodoffBaldrick · 21/05/2012 02:24

Beautiful name.

duffybeatmetoit · 21/05/2012 23:08

I know a Rosalind but she hated it with a passion and changed it by deed poll to Roz to avoid having it on her marriage certificate. That didn't exactly go down well with her mother.

Fozzleyplum · 21/05/2012 23:28

Rosalind (and Rosamund) and Jill are all lovely names. With Jill as a third name, I think a two syllable second name sounds best; ideally one which does not have any "l" ' s in it, because you've got "l" heavy names either side". Anna?
