My daughters name is Ellie-Rose and her sister is due in a few weeks! She likes the name Isabelle and DP and I like Lily and Emilia (shortened to Emmie/Millie) - which do you prefer/think goes best with my daughters name?

Your DD is right! Isabelle / Isabel / Isobel.

I think Emmie/milly are too similar to Ellie, with Isabelle you could have Bella/Belle as a NN which is very different

Pandygirl · 21/04/2012 13:12

I agree Isabelle, the others are too similar.

With Isabelle though, I prefer the shortened version Belle, but then I shorten my daughters name to Elle...! Also like Lucie but not sure as surname also begins with an L.

Isabelle. Yes the others sound too similar.

Elle and Bella is fine.

I prefer Isabelle to lily or Emilia alongside your daughter's name...
But actually prefer Lucie to Isabelle if there's a chance you would use Elle and Belle as I think that is too similar! Also, it's hard to predict which shortening of a name your dd might like herself so could be hard to insist upon your favoured one at the moment!
I'm not big on alliterative names but within your choices might go for lucie even if surname begins with an L. How does it sound? Sometimes the alliteration actually sounds really good, just depends on the name iyswim!
Are these definitely your final names or are you open to suggestions?!

I feel that you and your dh need to choose a name you love, not your (I assume little) daughter.

I personally find all names a little too 'trendy' but what matters is that you and your dh love the names you give your girls! Good luck!

I would say that your DD is right Isabel goes best with Ellie. Emilia is too similar and is a proper name whereas Ellie is a nickname. I think if you used Milly as the full name and had Milly and Ellie-Rose it could work. Lily is nice but Ellie-rose and Lily well i think it just kind of sounds strange together.

Agree that Isabelle works best with your DD's name.
