Have always loved the name Sophie/Sophia but realise just how popular it is and probably will be for a good few years.

Thoughts on this close alternative please or any other name suggestions.

Sapphire is gorgeous - love it.

It was good for Joanna Lumley!

Seriously, Sapphire? How can you think anything other than 'stripper'?

BigHairyFlowers · 20/04/2012 22:46

Lumley trumps stripper.

I also thought 'sapphic' immediately. Could be tough in the teen years being called Sapphia.

If you're pronouncing it as sapphire, just name her Sapphire.

BuntyPenfold · 21/04/2012 17:28

I know a Sapphira, and her friends all pronounce it as Sophia anyway.
Saffron is nice.

minceorotherwise · 21/04/2012 17:34

I know a sapphire, but it's pronounced saffeera (they aren't English), she gets saffi for short and it's lovely I think

nickelhasababy · 23/04/2012 15:24

i know someone with Safir as a middle name.

i think it's a plant...
