Cora Regina (middle name after DSIL who died last year) not sure it sounds right...

DH and I have struggled to come up with a shortlist that we both agree on for our daughter due in a month, but really like Cora as it can't really be shortened and I haven't been able to think of any insults it can be turned into (although DBRO came up with "Apple Cora" Hmm). DH would like to use Regina as the middle name as his DSIS died last year but I don't think it sounds right together, particularly as they both end in 'a'. Should I go back to the drawing board for first name or maybe have a second middle name before Regina? Advice please!

Yes have a second middle name before Regina.

DottieRose · 19/04/2012 14:00

I like it!

Both are nice names but I understand what you mean about the two names together. The repeated "Ra-Re" sound at the end of Cora and start of Regina is what makes it a bit difficult. Maybe another middle name inbetween?
Or are there any different first names you like? A first name that doesn't end in "ra"
Alice Regina ?

EdithWeston · 19/04/2012 14:33

I find the repeated "r" a bit too clunky.

Might you consider Corinna Regina for a full version, then use Cora as a nn? Or add another middle name? Any other lovely family names?

Stellan · 19/04/2012 15:01

Absolutely use both names but stick another middle name in between the two you've chosen.

Just a few suggestions off the cuff:

Cora Alice Regina
Cora Elodie Regina
Cora Emily Regina
Cora Grace Regina
Cora Imogen Regina
Cora Harriet Regina
Cora Lucy Regina
Cora Mabel Regina
Cora Verity Regina

Alternatively, Coralie Regina flows better.

To be honest, it's really difficult to think of names that work with Regina as a middle name so I reckon you ought to just pick a first name you adore.

I'm also not sure whether to say Cora re-JEEN-uh or Cora reg-EYE-nuh. The second flows a little better, I think.

IslaValargeone · 19/04/2012 15:03

It's a bit clumsy sounding imo with the r repeated.

Nothing wrong with it although I'm afraid I would think "apple corer" like your DBRO. Coralie Regina is a nice suggestion.

MagsAloof · 19/04/2012 18:29

what Stellan said

Love the name Cora, btw

Biscuitbreaker · 19/04/2012 21:00

How about Coralie Regina, then shorten it to Cora...

BrieAddicted · 19/04/2012 21:41

I was also going to suggest Coralie

alwaysanauntie · 19/04/2012 21:45

Thanks everyone! DH and I are going to sit down this weekend to discuss names properly, so will see what we can agree on :o

Like it a lot.

lonelypuff · 20/04/2012 00:00

No - I just sense various rude connotations.

CointreauVersial · 20/04/2012 00:05

No-one ever says all three names, though, do they? She'll just be "Cora Smith" (or whatever).

I don't think there's any problem with Cora Regina. I agree with you about choosing something that can't be shortened - my pet hate!

EllenParsons · 21/04/2012 21:35

Put another middle name in between them. I really love Cora and I think it's nice that you want to honour your SIL, so I wouldn't scrap either of your name choices.

Just put something simple in to break it up, even if it is a bit of a filler, eg

Cora May Regina
Cora Jane Regina
Cora Grace Regina?

sashh · 23/04/2012 06:23

All names can be shortened, or legnthened, wait for Cor, or Coz / Cozzy, Ora

I knew someone who called their child Darren as it can't be shortened, as soon as he got to school it was Daz
