'Astala' for a boy?

Peaches Geldof has called her son Astala. I personally think it's a beautiful name, it's Hebrew in origin. Thoughts?

I love Jonah, not Indigo for a boy. Too girly imo.

But to be honest, smallpunsmum, just go with whichever you like, not Peaches or mumsnet or anyone. I mean (tongue in cheek) you know what they say about Peaches Geldof, master of the English Language... I'm sure she has a fantastic grip on baby names and nappies too. Grin

OP - does she pay you pr fees?
Ridiculous name, but I nsuppose she had to live up to her own. How long before he's making a living by birthright?

oikopolis · 16/04/2012 01:45

i heard about this and thought it very Hmm

the name's pretty silly.

i also feel quite sorry for the child tbh. Mummy's already shopping stories to Hello! and the poor lad's not even out in the open air yet.

May be Hebrew, but looks like she's been at the scrabble letters.

DaSmallPunsMum · 16/04/2012 11:35

Every celebrity shops stories to Hello about their children so that they have control over what photos come out of baby and what is said. Only last week I was reading Beyonce's Hello and OK bump and then baby picture interviews, and Sienna Miller is doing it too. I was fascinaed by her mum and thought she was a wonderful woman, so exotic on The Tube program. Of course i'm not her 'pr', shame you cant stick up for someone and get flack for it, but you can be disgustingly rude about a young mum you dont know behind the comfort of your computer and its ok. Weird society we have become. And Indigo was actually originally used as a boys name, smokeandglitter. I think Jonah is nice but am leaning more towards Indigo as its more unusual.

You can't 'stick up' for someone based on articles in mind numbing sleb magazines!
You have formed your opinion based on what PR people and media want you to hear, not from an actual relationship with Peaches.
Nobody has to sell a story or pictures, most of these people could quite easily afford to have their Babies and disappear for a while if they so wished. I can't believe you are so naive as to assume the money they get has nothing to do with it.

The name is ok, nothing special. If you really love it then use it.
It does sound better with Indigo than Jonah, but I think Jonah is a much nicer name. Indigo sounds more feminine to me, where Jonah is stronger.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Peaches Geldof makes a great Mum. She seems to me to very bright and capable. Admittedly in the past she has come across as a spoilt, attention seeking uber brat but y'know lots of people are like this at a young age and come through it the other side with a some life lessons learnt and a steadier head on their shoulders.

Let's give her a chance.

Hving said all that, Astala is truly awful :)

NurseJennyLee · 16/04/2012 12:29

Oh but OP what will you do if she changes her mind and calls him Dave? Indigo Dave is different. Wink Grin

Blatherskite · 16/04/2012 12:33

Anyone else finding the indignation that a bunch of strangers not liking another strangers baby name choice is causing a bit concerning?

Seriously op, if you wanted everyone to go "Astala is lovely hun" and congratulate you for naming your child after your favourite Crayola crayon, then you're on the wrong webiste.

NurseJennyLee · 16/04/2012 12:37

Grin Blathers
I am chalking it up to 'pregnancy hormones', though I don't remember mine making me hysterically defensive of z-list schlebs.

Personally I would avoid using the same name as a celebrity, especially one so unusual. People will know (and will think it's extremely naff).

belgo · 16/04/2012 14:56

I thought we'd been quite restrained on this thread TBH. I'm surprised at the accusations of 'vitriol'.

Still think John Bob is better then Astala.

nizlopi · 16/04/2012 15:14

Indigo? Because its more 'different'?

Well, aren't you a special little snowflake :) well done

ExitPursuedByABear · 16/04/2012 15:20

Another vote for John Bob here.

Go on OP, call your son Indigo Astala.

lisaro · 16/04/2012 15:42

belgo; Still think John Bob is better then Astala.
Feck me - Jimbob is better that that, and it's still bloody awful!

mrsbugsywugsy · 16/04/2012 15:55

Indigo and Astala both sounds like girls' names. And made up ones, at that.

smokeandglitter · 17/04/2012 16:20

DaSmallPunsMum I appreciate it probably was, but I know more girls called Indigo and in my opinion - which you asked for - it sounds girly. A lot more so than Jonah, which in my opinion is lovely.
