Following on from my previous thread, DS is now nearly 3 weeks and we still haven't settled on a name. Honest opinions please, is Max Cummings a bad idea?

SomebodySaveMe · 11/04/2012 16:16

I was with a Richard Cummings. Not too bad until you think about the nickname for Richard.

Max Cummings sounds lovely.

meditrina · 11/04/2012 16:18

I might not have noticed, but as you pointed it out, yes I do think it might be a little tiresome to live with. Pity, as Max is a lovely name.

SomebodySaveMe · 11/04/2012 16:19

Could you have Maxwell and just call him Max?

squoosh · 11/04/2012 16:22

Hmmmm, it may be a tad too snigger inducing. I can see that Cummings is a toughie to work with.

welovesausagedogs · 11/04/2012 16:55

It's nice enough.

Positiveplus · 11/04/2012 19:26

Like the name Max but with your suranme, I personally wouldnt go with it.
I can sympathise though as we have a tricky surname too which would also rule Max out!!

FamiliesShareGerms · 11/04/2012 19:31

Yes, I think unfortunatley it would be a bit unfair on your little one.

However...is there anything the Internet doesn't know? Try some of these out?

nizlopi · 11/04/2012 19:35

our surname is Wood and I love the name Max, but I never would because Max Wood just sounds dirty :P

BBQJuly · 11/04/2012 19:57

To be avoided I think, sorry.

How about

Samuel
Henry
Matthew
Liam
Nathan
Aidan
Joel
Zachary
Harrison
Scott
Noah
Brandon
James
Edward
Peter

Stellan · 12/04/2012 14:11

This is one you're going to put on a list that we all have: names I love but can't use.

Stellan · 12/04/2012 14:15

Might be worth reading this too: swistlebabynames.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/baby-naming-issue-okay-to-use-henry.html

Aworryingtrend · 12/04/2012 15:17

Yes sorry I think it definitely has those connotations unfortunately.

GrannyS · 13/04/2012 11:07

My daughter went to school with a Ricky Cummings and tbh i never thought anything about it until i read this thread.

TheRetroOwl · 13/04/2012 11:15

My suggestions are:

George
Joseph
Alexander

I've become addicted to looking on the UK Census to find ideas for names. These were the ones that I thought sounded good with your surname.

lunamoon · 13/04/2012 13:09

You do have an unfortunate surname, sorry.
Think max is a good a name as any really to go with Cummings.
Is that your surname too, wondering if your baby coukld take your name instead iyswim.

glastocat · 13/04/2012 13:22

I wouldn't,honestly some mean people like me will snigger.

Biscuitbreaker · 14/04/2012 23:49

I'm sorry... I wouldn't do it. Have you any other names on a shortlist?

ggirltwin2pinot · 14/04/2012 23:53

I used to know a Max Titman

now that's an unfortunate surname

yellowflowers · 15/04/2012 08:35

I don't see a problem really. It's hardly Mike Hunt.

doctordwt · 15/04/2012 16:30

Oh... I remember your other thread.

Argh. I'm sorry but I think Cummings is SUCH a difficult one to work with then yes I'd go for a first name which offers NO potential to fit with the second, iyswim. Max Cummings - it provides an extra potential giggle which wasn't there before!
Can't remember the other names you had in mind, but following on from Max:

Leo Cummings?
Jago Cummings?

zxcv123 · 15/04/2012 22:09

No, you really shouldn't choose Max with Cummings. He will be ridiculed at school etc. For the same reason, you shouldn't use Isaac either.

We know of a boy called Max Price, where presumably his parents just did not think....

ComposHat · 16/04/2012 05:32

My mum is a teacher and a terrible giggler, especially when she had an Aaron Hiscock in her year.

She wouldn't be able to read out 'Max Cummings' without collapsing in a heap of laughter.

Imagine what the kids would do to him.

ComposHat · 16/04/2012 05:34

I also went to university with an A.C. Hunt

And he was.

KlickKlackknobsac · 16/04/2012 06:40

Max- short for maximum
your boy can squirt the full capacity of gis
that is why it is not a good idea.
It may not happen much, but it depends how tough he is as to whether he can cope.

If you like the x why not Xavier.
If you like the M why not Matt Cummings..... no- scrap that- gis on the carpet.
Nor Mark.
Nor Miles.
Avoid all M names and pick from previos posters suggestions- I think Alexander is godd and has the X.

KlickKlackknobsac · 16/04/2012 06:41
