I love traditional girls' names. Which could I get away with using?

DC2 on the way and it's a possible girl :)

My shortlist is:

Annabel
Elizabeth
Lucilla
Lucinda

According to my mum we are not posh enough to use Lucinda (thanks mum!). Which do you like best from that list?

I like Annabel best, then Elizabeth. Prefer Lucy or Lucia to Lucinda/Lucilla.

AKMD · 05/04/2012 21:03

I also like Felicity but not quite as much as the other 4.

If DS had been a DD then he would have been Annabel Lucy. Annabel is still a favourite but we don't want to use it just because it was top of the list last time.

I like them all except Lucilla.
Lucinda isnt posh [Mrs Next-door's d-i-l is Lucinda and very unposh].Annabel is gorgeous with lots of lovely nn's.

EllenParsons · 05/04/2012 21:53

Lucilla seems made up and a bit "Godzilla"! (sorry)

Annabel and Elizabeth are both lovely. Lucinda is okay but the similarity to Linda puts me off and makes me think it is a bit "dumpy" (again, sorry to any Lindas...) I love just Lucy.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 05/04/2012 23:02

Can't go wrong with Elizabeth.

Traditional, classy and if you wanted a nn, plenty to choose from.

cece · 05/04/2012 23:05

I like either Elisabeth (like the s spelling myself) or Annabel - I think they are classless go anywhere names.

EightiesEasterChick · 05/04/2012 23:11

Elizabeth and Lucy are both great, timeless, very portable in terms of social situations or geography.

manicinsomniac · 06/04/2012 00:07

I love Annabel. Not keen on the others

MrsWeasley · 06/04/2012 00:12

All are lovely, less keen on Lucilla.
Annabel is quite popular around our way at the moment but its a classic and so beautiful.

PercyFilth · 06/04/2012 01:38

Annabel for me.

Re Lucinda, I find it a bit fussy, but it does have the advantage of offering both Lucy and Cindy as diminutives.

Beans1977 · 06/04/2012 07:21

Do you like Lucille? I have a friend called this, although everyone calls her Lucy

baskingseals · 06/04/2012 07:32

really like Annabel and Elizabeth.
Congratulations Smile

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 06/04/2012 07:33

Not so keen on Lucilla and Lucinda.
Elizabeth is probably my favourite.

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 06/04/2012 08:11

Elizabeth, classic, izzy is nice nn for younger years, then Beth is beautiful. My sis is called this name, she is thirteen and it's not common for her age or younger I don't think.

FondleWithCare · 06/04/2012 09:16

Annabel- too cutesy sounding for me
Elizabeth- lovely, classic
Lucilla- I don't like like this, Lucille would be better
Lucinda- I like this and I'm far from being posh

AKMD · 06/04/2012 10:21

:o Godzilla

Lucille is a nice alternative. We have a French surname so it would work quite well.

Elizabeth would be with a z as it's a family name. I like both spellings though.

It looks like Annabel and Elizabeth are the favourites then. Thanks for the input everyone :)

Lucille is too Kenny Rogers for me.

You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille

princessblods · 06/04/2012 11:32

mummybare · 07/04/2012 23:53

I like Annabel, love Elizabeth, Lucy and Lucille. Not so keen on Lucilla and Lucinda.

gafhyb · 08/04/2012 19:33

Elizabeth

or what about Margaret? - I also like nn Maggie and Peggy

Frikadellen · 08/04/2012 21:44

I love Lucinda and no your not to posh it is just your mums way of saying she doesnt like it laughs.

Elizabeth and Annabel are beautiful I do like Lucilla but would not as such view it a classic name

AKMD · 08/04/2012 23:07

Lucilla is a Georgette Heyer heroine so has to be classic Wink

Margaret is one of my middle names and also the name of my erm... quarrelsome... grandmother. I prefer Margot TBH.

Elizabeth is lovely, as is Elisabeth (my DD has this spelling for her second name as she is half French).
Annabel is also lovely.
I prefer Lucie to Lucilla or Lucinda.

exoticfruits · 09/04/2012 07:33

Elizabeth

Catsu · 09/04/2012 08:37

Lucilla reminds me of Godzilla too :)
Don't like lucille or lucinda (sounds like a page 3 girl!)
Annabel and Elizabeth are good!
