Old fashioned or classic names

Hi. I am looking for a classic name, I would prefer one that is not so common at the moment but not overly out there!

Our daughter has a name that is in the top 5 and I don't want to do that again. I hadn't realised quite how popular her name was at the time!

Psst - this thread is a little old. If you’re looking for old-fashioned baby names, these ones are due a comeback. MNHQ

It is worth checking the ONS list - gives ALL baby names used in a particular year. If you're after something less common, have a look outside the top 100 or even top 250.

emsyj · 03/04/2012 21:20

That's what we were after - a name people could spell and would recognise, not too 'out there' but one that wasn't popular so that she wouldn't end up with 4 others in her class at school (like me!) We settled on Ruth. Also considered Sarah as it is nice but not popular for babies.

Thank you everyone. Our daughter is called Emily. We won't be finding out the babys sex so need boy names too! It seems girls are easier than boys by all your lists?

MummysLittleSunbeams · 03/04/2012 22:37

Yes girls names are easier. I'm expecting dc3 in may (don't know the sex), I have 2 girls already, both of which I've included in my list in my previous post! Grin

Boys names I like are

Griffin (Griff)
Seth

Dh likes
Gil
Gabe

Hmmmm we've hit a bit of a wall with boys names.

I have a friend with a daughter Tullia. Tully for short. Easy to spell but unusual. She's the only one in her school. Downside people sometimes mistakenly pronounce it like Julia. Or think its Tallulah.

Thanks! So far I love Alice and Violet. No boys names jumping out at me though!
