I love 2 of them, DH loves the other 2... Opinions please! Expecting DD4 and we've run out names we can both agree on!

I like Hazel.

Psammead · 01/04/2012 15:55

Switch as a NN for Hazel? Grin It could work!

Mabel is my idea of dire.
Charlotte is very nice.
Hetty is a nice NN for Henrietta or so.

Hazel is brill.

CheerfulYank · 01/04/2012 16:57

But Nooka Heather is a flower too. :o

Showmethemhappyfeet · 01/04/2012 17:00

Ohhh Hazel is lovely.Smile
Mabel is terrible IMO (sorry) and not keen on the other 2

nooka · 01/04/2012 18:31

I know I know and I noticed it after I posted. Too busy thinking about Hetty long name alternatives. Lack of internal consistency fail Grin

toobreathless · 01/04/2012 19:46

I adore Hazel, but am biased DD is Hazel.

Like Mabel, dislike Hetty (prefer Hester), Charlotte is lovely but it's popularity would put me off.

SE13Mummy · 01/04/2012 20:43

I like all four of the names on your list but, as someone else mentioned, would avoid Hazel because you already have Iris and Rose (if I was the Beatrice in your family I'd feel left out!).

Charlotte is probably the one I'd choose to go with your other three but I love Hetty (I have a Hattie, short for Harriet) even though any Jacqueline Wilson reading primary school girls will assume your DD4 is named after Hetty Feather... Mabel is the name of a dead cat in another JW book

Others I think may go well include:
Alice
Constance
Cora
Cordelia
Dorothy (Dotty)
Edith
Elsa
Elsie
Hannah
Imogen
Josephine
Kezia(h)
Lucinda (or Lucie/Lucy)
Martha
Mary
Matilda
Miriam (I have one of these, aka Mim)
Penelope
Phoebe
Ruth
Sophie/Sophia
Theodora
Viola

Mabel or Hazel for me

Haberdashery · 01/04/2012 21:13

I like them all so much that I would actually just consider using them all in one fell swoop. Hetty Mabel Charlotte Hazel X. Lovely.

Haberdashery · 01/04/2012 21:26

Also, Hester for Hetty?

exoticfruits · 01/04/2012 21:58

Charlotte is lovely. Hazel is OK. Hetty is a hen's name and Mabel is a horrible 'old lady' name.

welovesausagedogs · 01/04/2012 22:09

What about:
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Violet
Beatrice, Rose Iris and Clemency
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Jemima
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Ophelia
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Betty
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Harriet
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Florence
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Nancy
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Matilda
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Heidi
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Lilian
Beatrice, Rose, Iris and Ava

Personally i think the names you are deciding between are no way as nice as the names you other daughters have.

ceebie · 01/04/2012 22:30

Definitely not Hetty or Mabel. I like Charlotte or Hazel - especially Hazel. I like names that don't have nicknames - a good thing IMO!

invicta · 01/04/2012 22:35

Hazel nn = Haz, Haze, Hazelnut, Heather (the Hazels i know are always being called Heather by mistake),

upsydaisyboo · 02/04/2012 14:59

welovesausagedogs: agree with you! Nothing on our short list is as nice as our other girls' names :-(

I love:
Florence (DH hates it)
Viola (DH hates it)
Lilian (DH hates it)
Genevieve (DH hates it)
Madeleine (DH thinks automatic association is 'McCann')
Constance (DH hates it)
Felicity (DH hates it)
Ruth (DH hates it)
Josephine (too close in sound to Rose who we often call Rosie)
Ivy (too close in sound to Iris)
Penelope (Mum insists on referring on using the loo as 'spending a penny', so we'd never be able to say her name wiht a straight face!)

Our ideal name would be old-fashioned with a NN ending in an 'ee' sound to fit with our other daughters' names.

What about Martha?

skateboarder · 02/04/2012 15:04

ah x post!

LaDiDaDi · 02/04/2012 20:20

Lydia
Clemency
Juliette
Thora
Francine
Polly
Margaret
Nancy
Ruth(ie)
Cordelia
Eleanor

Tricksterfrickster · 02/04/2012 20:56

Frances with NN potential of Frankie?

Tricksterfrickster · 02/04/2012 20:57

Also think Elsie would sound lovely with your other girls' names.

Chesticles · 02/04/2012 21:04

What do you shorten iris to? Or rose? [Confused]

I love hazel (my hazel is 4) but I think with2 of your other daughters having nature names the other one might feel left out.

I also like charlotte, not keen on mabel or hetty.

How about sally, alice or annabel (annie)?

welovesausagedogs · 02/04/2012 22:21

What about Clarice

Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Clarice sound really nice together.
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Amelie
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Evelyn - Beattie, Iris, Rosie, Evie
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Alice
Beatrice, Iris Rose and Mildred - Beattie, Iris, Rosie, Millie
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Edith - Like this combo - Beattie, Iris, Rosie and Edie
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Dorothea - Beattie, Iris, Rose and Dottie
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Elodie
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Elsie/Elsa
Beatrice, Iris, Rose and Minnie

SE13Mummy · 03/04/2012 22:53

Edith to Edie, Mary (as is), Dorothy to Dotty, Margaret to Maggie, Imogen to Immy/Jenny, Katherine to Kitty, Eleanor to Nellie?

Does your DH like any names?!

WhiteHairReally · 04/04/2012 14:33

Hebe?

doctordwt · 04/04/2012 14:55

Hazel v 70s - no.

Mabel kind of dull.

Charlotte a bit dull in a different way

I'd go for Hettie, short for Henrietta or Harriet. Then you get the long, traditional Charlotte-type name, with a shorter, more quirky 'old lady chic' nn.
