Different forms of Catherine

If DC2 is a girl, we are set on using a form of Catherine as a middle name for sentimental reasons. We very much like Catherine as it is, and also like Katerina.

We both love Jennifer as a first name, but I'm not convinced by 'Jennifer Catherine' - I don't think it flows, especially once you tag on both of our long surnames (the DCs are mixed nationalities, and we use both names for legal reasons). Jennifer Katerina is even worse!

Even if we don't settle on Jennifer, I'd love to come up with some alternative forms of Catherine. Help!

I like Jennifer Kate... It's probably unusual as a middle name but I think it flows nicely.

Traditional English shortenings are Katy, kath. Caitlin also popular as is Cat. My Catherine is Cassie which we love.

Wow, loads to think about!

I'm really quite taken by 'Katryn'. Is it pronounced 'Katrin' or 'Katreen'?

There's also Catriona. I like pretty much all the variants of it too!

Oh, I like Jennifer Catrin! It's pronounced with a short 'i', just like Catherine.

Jennifer Katya is nice

Thanks for all the suggestions. So far I'm most drawn to:

Jennifer Catrin
Jennifer Katryn
Jennifer Kathryn

I still feel it's a little clunky, especially when followed by two long surnames... but we're really starting to love 'Jennifer'. Bugger! I'm almost starting to think about having two middle names to break it up a bit, e.g. Jennifer Rose Catherine sounds beautiful to me, and flows much better... but is five names in total a bit excessive? How many names equals too many names?

We still have six months to mull it over, so no panic...

Ooo... I like Katya!

My name is Kathryn! As it's a middle name it should be lovely, but be aware that no one will ever spell it right!

sparkle12mar08 · 25/03/2012 20:50

I like Jennifer Catherine just as it is, it's gorgeous! How many syllables are in the next two names? A rhythym like Jennifer Catherine dum-dum de-dum works well, but it sounds as if your surnames are longer than that?

MadeInChinaBaby · 26/03/2012 22:11

Hi Kathryn Sweekune - it's a beautiful name - your parents had taste!
Spelling's not such a worry for us - we live in a country neither of us are originally from, so have to spell all our names constantly anyway.

It'd be Jennifer Catherine de-dum dum-de-dum... or more likely, Jennifer Kathryn de-dum dum-de-dum now!
