Jacqueline or Tessa?

What do you think? Are they middle-aged ladies names? When I was a kid I thought Jacqueline/Jacqui was the height of sophistication but now I'm not sure. Obviously there was that politician whose husband was caught looking at porn and charging it to her expense account - hardly a salubrious association, though one that'll be forgotten about in a generation's time. I've always liked Tessa but again wasn't it the name of that slightly mad woman in Tony Blair's cabinet?

Sorry but I think Jackie/Jacqui is dreadful. It belongs in the 60s with Sandra & Maureen.

toomuchpink · 20/03/2012 20:01

We have a Tessa! People have mentioned knowing dogs called Tessa and the savings account which came before ISAs, but not Tessa Jowell. I'm still very happy with our choice. She may, of course, choose to be a Tess when she is older.

Marmite2012 · 20/03/2012 20:03

My great Aunt's dog was called Tessa - but she was a lovely dog and I think it's a lovely name.

Not so keen on Jacqui though.

JasperJohns · 20/03/2012 20:03

My mil's dog is Tessa, but I like it nontheless. Tess is lovely.

NeedToDoDusting · 20/03/2012 20:08

Yes, my friend also had a dog called Tess.

I like Tess and Tessie as shortenings of Tessa.

I love Tessa, but I don't like Jacqueline at all.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/03/2012 20:18

I personally love Jacqueline. good strong name. Not middle aged at all i'm fecking 28 Not sure on the spelling of Jacqui though. Grin (she will spend her life telling people it's Jack-eh-leen and not Jack-oo-leen though)

Tessa is nice as well.

Sorry i'm not much help really...

TheUncannyValley · 20/03/2012 20:20

Tessa is lovely. Jacqueline isn't.

FilterCoffee · 20/03/2012 20:22

I prefer Jacqueline, with Jake as nickname.

Tessa sounds so drippy. I do like Tess, but would have Theresa as full name.

startail · 20/03/2012 20:45

Tessa is fine.

Jacqueline could defiantly work today. It is certainly a good strong name to me.
I've only met one and I've known her all my life. A good friend and a very independent lady.

She is always Jackie, she has a long surname so Jacqueline xxxxxxxxxx was a lot to fit in her wellies.

Stellan · 20/03/2012 20:48

I don't mind either but I think Jacqueline has the edge. I really don't like Jacqui/Jackie - very dated! Jack is more likely to be the modern day Jacqueline's nickname of choice.

trixie123 · 20/03/2012 20:50

we have a tessa. she is tess, tessie or tessa bear (like the noddy character). Jackie is not my cup of tea - just makes me think of the magazine Smile

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/03/2012 20:51

Jacqueline is pretty but not keen on Jackie.

dreamingofsun · 20/03/2012 20:54

tessa is one of my favourites. jacaueline is an old person's name - i have one of those and its horrid - please don't do that to your child

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/03/2012 21:04

When I was younger my best friend decided she would shorten my name from Jacqueline to Jace. It stuck for a while... until I got older, now i'm just Jack or Jaffie. Grin

DialMforMummy · 20/03/2012 21:23

Tessa, always.
Jacqueline is really awful IMO

Ali2girls · 20/03/2012 21:59

Tessa is a lovely name.
Jacqueline seems very dated. Not sure a girl would want to be called Jackie -seems too old fashioned. But then ... if you like it...

mrudagawa · 20/03/2012 22:00

If you're not joking, I think these are brilliant, absolutely un- mumsnetty. Noone else will nick them. Go for it.

MirandaGoshawk · 20/03/2012 22:01

Tessa.

GRW · 20/03/2012 22:02

I like Jackie a lot- reminds me of the 11 year old singer Jackie Evancho who was on America's Got Talent a couple of years ago. Tessa is nice too.

Truffkin · 20/03/2012 22:02

My sister is a Tessa! NNs are Tess, Tessie Bear, Ted, Teddy, Tessing-One.... (There are many more. We are family of NNers!)

The Jacqui / Jackie / Jacquelines I know are all the next generation up, so don't think it's re-trending yet!

wobblypig · 20/03/2012 22:04

'No one else will nick them' Not sure that's the best recommendation. Not meaning to be rude - but there's a good reason for that

Chirpychick2010 · 20/03/2012 22:07

Tbh and Imo yes there old names the lady across the road is called Tessa and shes about 70! No like but hey if you do cool Grin its your choice no one else opinion really counts. X

Chirpychick2010 · 20/03/2012 22:10

Ps i was a kathleen and utterly hated it as it felt like an old lady's name so i changed it to kate Blush

18biscuit · 20/03/2012 22:11

Tessa
