Evelyn (Evie) in Wales?

We really love the name Evelyn with Evie as a nn. I've seen quite a few threads saying how popular Evie has become and that there'll be loads in their class, etc, but does anyone know any in Wales? Until we looked on MN we didn't have any idea it was so popular and have never come across any in RL.

I keep seeing this too, but dd is nn evie and the only one. lots of Avas though. not sure about Wales so that's actually not that much help, sorry!

No idea about Wales, sorry...!
Evelyn/Evie is the most used name in sunny Devon, if that is any help.

National Statistics Office do a yearly breakdown of the most popular names, with a seperate one for Wales, and England. Don't know how to link to it sorry. I only know one but people I know tend to give their kids Welsh names so I've not got the balance.

Efa is Welsh for Eve by the way (the f pronouced as a v and a short 'e' like in Emma.

I don't know any Evelyn's, but do know 1 Ava. We are in South Wales. Evie is a nn for Evangeline as well as Evelyn and is also a 'proper' name in itself, so you might come across Evie, but not as an abbreviation of Evelyn.

I know of one Ava and she is in South Wales. Efa is pretty popular though I don't know any personally.

One third of the girls in DDs class are called some variant of Eve. Totally overdone personally would avoid for this reason. Its definitely this generations Sarah i.e. nice name but way too common (as in lots of them).

I know quite a few little Evie's (Cardiff/Vale of Glam area). It's still a pretty name.

BelleEnd · 22/03/2012 12:37

I know 2 under 3 in mid-Wales. Still a pretty name :)

In 2010 Evie was 14th most popular baby girls name in Wales with 181 baby Evies born. It was 16th in 2009 and 14th in 2008. HTH.

I have an Eve - zero around when I was pregnant 6 years ago. Now I know about 5 eve/evie in s wales. :(

I am in Wales and have a 4 yr old Ava. In my kids primary school (approx 250 kids) she is the only Ava. There is one Eve, no Evelyns, no Evies.

Outside school we know 2 Evies, one 15 the other 10 and a 2yr old Eva.

I have never met, or heard of a young Evelyn here, the Evies are full names not nicknames.

We know a lot of children, so no not common at all

AtticusFlinched · 24/03/2012 13:08

Thanks all. I guess how common a name seems really does depend on your particular area.

Sounds like Evelyn is less common than Evie as a full name though. Not too worried, but the internet had me believing they'd be everywhere for a moment there!
