Would really like some opinions on Erica or Pandora? Which do you like best.

Thanks

I too, imeadiately thing 'Adrian Mole', then move onto Pandora's Box.
Don't really like Erica either, but can't put my finger on why.

cabbageandbeans · 18/03/2012 00:57

Neither. They are both horrible. Seek inspiration from fruit and vegetables.

MaMattoo · 18/03/2012 01:04

Erica ofcourse!

BellaOfTheBalls · 18/03/2012 01:13

Neither are my taste but I'd go for Erica. This is only because our of the three Pandora's I've met 1 was ver ver posh and kept talking about her recent trip on Daddeh's yacht, 1 was an absolute A grade cow and the other was a stripper exotic dancer & I wasn't ever sure if it was her stage name or her actual name.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 18/03/2012 08:11

Pandora is fab, and I would go with Dora as a nickname; love it.

Erica is ok, but a bit prim for my tastes.

Puremince · 18/03/2012 09:23

Erica. Pandora has the whole "Pandora's box" thing.

OMGBFP · 18/03/2012 10:06

Pandora - beads
Erica - totally lovely name :)

If you like Pandora though might you like Penelope?

Stellan · 18/03/2012 16:52

I'd pick Erica but if you like Pandora, perhaps you'll also like Isadora.

Alligatorpie · 18/03/2012 17:09

I liked Pandora until I read the other comments, I do like Erica - or maybe Eliza?

OMGBFP · 18/03/2012 17:44

Isadora, too much like Wizadora? (anyone remember that one?)

ragged · 18/03/2012 17:51

Pandora not good connotations; not a fan of Erica but I'd choose it over Pandora.
Erica sounds less pretentious than the others.

My kids have boring names, lots to be said for boring!

FilterCoffee · 18/03/2012 17:54

Prefer the sound of Pandora, but would go with Erica to avoid the Pandora's box jokes.

Pandora reminds me of Adrian Mole.................Wink

StarterForTen · 18/03/2012 22:39

Erica, beautifal name, Latin for heather

bobbledunk · 18/03/2012 23:44

Both nice names, prefer PandoraSmile

oikopolis · 19/03/2012 01:09

I would never do Pandora just because of the connotations. Releaser of all evil into the universe and all that.

Erica's OK, not my favourite.

Daya · 19/03/2012 12:13

Thank you all for the feedback and suggestions, is really helpful to hear what others think.

I'm going to go for Erica, I think Pandora a bit too eccentric and not good connotations.

I LOVE LOVE Pandora. I don't see what is so hideous about the Adrian Mole connotation - she was a treacle haired beauty who became an Oxford Professor! What's so dreadful about that?! And there are plenty of interpretations of the box episode which are less negative (it doesn't seem to out people off Cassandra, either).

But I have to say that, when I mentioned it as no. 1 name for DC2 to a few people they all, without exception, spontaneously laughed in my face.

TheDormouse · 19/03/2012 14:09

Yes, go for Erica! That's my name. To be honest when I was younger I didn't absolutely adore it, but I now I'm all grown up I do think it's everything a name should be - it's definitely female but strong too, it's a "real" name, and it's unpretentious (IMO). But it's unusual enough that I've never had to be referred to by my surname as well. There's not much teasing potential unless you count Erik the Viking (which I don't, not really). I think my parents did OK there. Gets my vote!

Daya · 19/03/2012 17:10

Thanks TheDormouse, nice to hear from an Erica!

After coming up with many dramatic and wonderful names I think i've come to the conclusion that an under used but 'normal' name is hopefully cooler and easier to live with than an 'exciting' name.

Pandora is a very big name, all those broad vowels maybe. After my initial Adrian Mole/Box thoughts I then see a larger than life character art teacher with lots of courful silk scarves. Don't love it tbh.

Erica is better.
