Of those I know children now with the following names:-

Michael
Tom
Andrew
Aidan
Charlotte
Adam
Erin
Laura
Lauren

Most of the others would be quite unusual nowadays.

GooseyLoosey · 13/03/2012 08:42

I know several Toms and Charlottes, an Andrew, a Robert, an Aidan, an Adam and a Lauren.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 13/03/2012 08:42

I think quite a few are ok

Laura, Erin, Charlotte are nice and know children with these names. I actually quite like Nicola and Angela though they are more dated.

Boys, would use Aidan, Adam, Tom.

JugsMcGee · 18/03/2012 13:45

I like Aidan and Charlotte. Michael is our DS' middle name (after a late family member).

hubbahubster · 18/03/2012 18:43

My name is on there! Fnar! This could have been a list of my schoolmates from primary school - it was such a shock when I moved from a state-run school on a council estate to a public senior school and met girls called Amber, Eleanor, Joanna, Hannah... Wow!

Only Erin really appeals.

pchick · 18/03/2012 18:49

I've not met any young Garys, Gavins, Shane's, Ians, Stuarts, Julies, Nicolas, Karens, Cheryls, Angela's, Colins.

LaTristesse · 18/03/2012 20:55

Lindsay is lovely. I might shortlist it for my DD, although I would probably spell it differently...

SwedishEdith · 18/03/2012 21:01

I know of a 4-yr old Mark.

dealer · 18/03/2012 21:36

I also know a 4 year old Mark, and a 5 year old Colin.

Used to think Colin very oldfashioned but it's surprising how quickly you get used to it, and it seems a really normal kid name to me now.

Another1makes4 · 19/03/2012 10:53

I like and would consider Aidan, Stuart, Mark, Lauren and Charlotte.

Also know children (under 5) called Aidan, Charlotte, Tom and Erin.

Wouldnt ever consider the likes of Shane, Gavin, Colin, Gary, Cheryl or Karen though!!

squoosh · 19/03/2012 11:23

In Ireland in 1986 we were knee deep in the following;

Aoife, Orla, Claire, Fiona, Edel, Joanne, Julie, and Ciara. With a smattering of Sharons and Sineads.

Convent school so no boys names of course!

Sarcalogos · 19/03/2012 11:29

I think, Michael, Tom, Andrew, Nicola, Robert, Lindsey, Stephanie, Aiden, Charlotte, Adam, Stuart, mark, Laura, Lauren are all still pretty mainstream for babies/young kids.

lurkinginthebackground · 19/03/2012 22:48

My name is on the list!
I know quite a few children with those names.

lurkinginthebackground · 19/03/2012 22:54

michael
tom
andrew

stephanie
aidan
charlotte
adam
erin
lauren

manicinsomniac · 20/03/2012 09:29

gary - no way. The youngest one I know is 25
karen - probably not. Youngest one I know is 27. Apart from outnumbered kid
cheryl - no, no, no. I don't know any but I guess there's Chery Cole (26/7?)
michael - possibly. Youngest I know is 10
lorraine - no. I only know of 2 - 28 and 50 odd
tom - possibly. Know lots of all ages
andrew - I like it. Can't think of a child with it right now though, all 18+
nicola - possibly. Prefer Nicole. Youngest I know is 15
robert - no. Can only think of 40+ year olds with this name
lindsay - no. too dated. I know loads in their late 20s and a few older.
stephanie - possibly. Youngest I know is 12.
julie - no, very dated. Would have to be Julia/Juliet now. Only know 40+ ones
aidan - I really like this. Youngest I know is 10 but I know it's still popular
charlotte - really like this too. Know lots of all ages
angela - not keen. Know one of 27, others are all in their 40s/50s
adam - It's ok. Youngest I know is 7
stuart - No. Know lots in their mid to late 20s but no younger
ian - No, really dislike it. I know one who is 25
erin - Like it. Youngest I know is 5
mark - It's ok. Prefer Marcus. Don't know any children with it
colin - No, no, no. Never met one.
gavin - definitely not! There was one in my year at school. Never met another
shane -arghhh, no! Again, knew one at primary school, never met another
laura - it's ok. I know about a million between 20 and 35. No children
lauren - quite nice. Youngest I know is 14

When I was 8 (1991) the names in my primary school weren't that different. From what I can remember:
Amy, Anna, Anne-Marie, Karen, Nicola, Rebecca, Rachel, Kirsty, Robyn, Lorraine, Lois, Jamie, Carrie-Anne, Jennifer, Kimberly, Elizabeth
Gary, Craig, Thomas, Wayne, Paul, Shaun, Shane, Matthew, Mark, Martin, Simon, Daniel, Ryan.

winkle2 · 21/03/2012 17:28

I know a newborn called Ian! Dreadful name for a baby!

nizlopi · 21/03/2012 17:32

I quite like out of that list -

michael (its my son's middle name!)
tom
julie
adam (its on my shortlist if I ever get around to having another)
erin
colin (I have an american friend with a Colin and its really grown on me)
