Which of the above names should we choose? I like Sophie lots ... Does it matter that it's too common?

Georgia's nice. Sophie is too frequently used for me, but if you like it who cares Smile?

3boysgirlontheway · 10/03/2012 20:08

Our new DD is Florence, so don't pick that :)

All your names are lovely, I would not pick Sarah or Sophie myself, but, they are fine names!

tummytickler · 10/03/2012 20:14

Julia, Sasha or Sarah - the rest are a bit boring imo. Julia is really lovely - my favourite from your list.

FilterCoffee · 10/03/2012 20:19

Lovely shortlist :)

Florence, Sarah and Georgia all lovely, and I quite like Sophie, Anna, Julia too, although I prefer Sophia, Annabel, Juliet.

Sasha - know some people like it but it sounds a bit odd to me
Ella too nicknamey but nice if short for Eleanor or similar.

chummymummy7 · 10/03/2012 20:30

They're all pretty names. Julia, Georgia or - since you like it the most - Sophie. Don't overthink the popularity issue - if it's popular, then that's for a reason ie. it's a lovely-sounding and lovely-looking name.

Our dd is Sophia, which apparently is the most common name ever, yet we hardly ever come across another one and are so glad we picked it.

tummytickler · 10/03/2012 20:36

I agree not to worry about the popularity of Sophie. I know loads of 30+ Sophies and only 1 child Sophie (and one Sophia). I have 4 dc, so I know a lot of kids! I don't know a single Olivia either, and only one Ruby (bit about a million Florences and Stanleys, and three Hebes). So you just can't tell how many will be in your dc class - even if you pick something more unusual you might have more than one in the class , and no Sophies.

AubergineKenobi · 10/03/2012 20:45

All lovely names. What good taste you have. My order of preference would be:

Julia
Anna
Sophie
Florence
Ella
Sarah
Sasha
Georgia

PercyFilth · 10/03/2012 21:36

Julia.

mamalJ · 11/03/2012 06:29

Do you think Julia with a surname beginning with j also is too much or is the aliteration ok?

OP posts:
Purplehonesty · 11/03/2012 06:33

No that's nice. Say it was Julia jones or Julia Johnston.... sounds lovely
Love your shortlist, might be snaffling one for myself!

flossiebella · 11/03/2012 06:38

I'm a Florence Wink

I like Julia, Anna or Sophie from your list.

mayanna123 · 11/03/2012 07:42

Sasha is a boys name to me. My picks would be Julia or Sarah.

Psammead · 11/03/2012 08:38

Not over keen on Sasha.

The rest are all nice Smile

MadameChinLegs · 11/03/2012 08:55

Everyone and their aunt is called Sophie at the moment. Ella is doing the rounds too. If you like it, though, don't let it stop you. What about an alternative version, like Sophia? My little sister is a Katie and while there were a tonn of Kates and Katherines in her school year, she was the only Katie, so it felt less common.

Love Anna, wanted Florence (nn Floss) for my DD but DH vetoed. Like Georgia, not keen at all on Sarah and may actually hate Sascha (only my opinion though). I like Julia, more than I thought I would, but would use nn Jools all the time though.

StealthNinja · 11/03/2012 09:14

My DD is Sasha and I love it (though obviously not to everyone's taste).

I also like Julia and Anna.

Bonsoir · 11/03/2012 09:22

I think Sasha is a boy's name and always very confused when it is used for girls.

I like Anna and Julia best of the OP's names. I like Giorgia better than Georgia. Or Georgina or even better Georgiana.

fedupofnamechanging · 11/03/2012 09:39

I would choose Sophie, Anna or Sarah. Not keen on Florence (I think about magic roundabout) or Ella (I think of Rihanna singing that bloody stupid 'umberella, ella, ella eh, eh, eh' song. I admit that's more about my weird mind than any reflection on the actual names though.

Hope88 · 11/03/2012 10:01

Julie & Georgia

designerbaby · 11/03/2012 10:14

If we ever have a DD3 (distinctly unlikely...) she will be Florence Joy. We've done Spanish with our DD1, French for our DD2 so it seems to make sense to raid Italy for DD3. We're working our way around Europe (but avoiding Germany!)

FilterCoffee · 11/03/2012 12:22

I think Julia with a "J" surname could be fine, as long as the surname is sufficiently different to the first name, so it's not too sing-songy.

BeaMinor · 11/03/2012 12:27

I think they are all lovely names.

Don't be put off by people saying it's a common name, I have a DD called Ella and we have never met another one - we've met a bella, Evie, Ellie etc but no ellas.
Obviously I'm biased but the other names I like best on your list are Sarah, Anna and Georgia.
