Penelope Alice ... Or another on shortlist?

Need help for DD2's (DC3) name- just found out we're having a girl, so can now concentrate on girls' names :)

We had three on our contentious shortlist: Juliet, Alice and Penelope (nn Penny). At the moment, shortlist has a possible outcome of 'Penelope Alice'.

I love Juliet but really REALLY don't like the nn Jools (inevitable nn i think, no offence to all the lovely Jools out there).
We both love Alice but have DD Isla, think Isla and Alice sound a bit too similar...
I really like Penny, only know one other in circle of friends, and even DH coming round!

So... Feedback gratefully received!

Great shortlist :) Juliet is very pretty but Jools is probably inevitable. Penelope/Penny is lovely and would be great for a first name, so how about Penelope Juliet?

EmmaCate · 10/03/2012 08:56

Penny Alice is sailing slightly too close to the wind for me with regards the word penis, for some reason. I don't know why; it's not that logical.

I second Penelope Juliet, therefore! Penny is lovely. I know a Juliet who is Jools.

EmmaCate · 10/03/2012 08:58

Actually it is logical, although tenuous. It's because it starts 'pen' and ends 'iss'.

Makeminealarge · 10/03/2012 09:03

I love love Penelope or penny for nn. Is actually our second choice for dd2 name. Penny Alice looks nice but rolling off the tongue is a bit tricky. Really like penny Juliet, such a pretty feminine sounding name! Smile

zenoushka · 10/03/2012 09:26

I think Penelope Juliet is a lovely name.

sydenhamhiller · 10/03/2012 10:02

:o and Blush at 'penny Alice' sailing close to the wind...

DH very keen on Alice as first name, just too close to Isla (when shouted across playground) for me... But I do love it as a name.

I LOVE Penelope, it's on our shortlist, as is Alice, but I'm not sure I'd put them together. Can't explain it. Not sure about Penelope Juliet either tbh. Hmmm, what are your other options for a MN?

CecilyP · 10/03/2012 12:07

Penelope Alice sounds a bit of a mouthful, whereas Juliet Alice sound really good together. Though if you love Alice, I don't think it is so like Isla that you that you couldn't use it.

EllenParsons · 10/03/2012 12:18

Penelope Juliet! I love Isla too - you have good taste Grin

The5thFishy · 10/03/2012 12:25

Penelope is gorgeous

Pippinella · 10/03/2012 12:37

My daughter is called Penny. Therefore I highly recommend it!

jarvo84 · 10/03/2012 17:42

My mum is called Penelope Ann... so I quite like the name too. And I used to go to school with a girl called Penny Parrott!

EmmaCate · 11/03/2012 13:38

Gosh don't be embarrassed! I mean that's why you do these posts isn't it - so you get another perspective :)

Anyway it's probably just me...

OMGBFP · 11/03/2012 14:09

i don't think Alice and Isla are at all similar? Use it :)

nicecupofteaplease · 11/03/2012 20:47

Hmmm, we have an Alice and call her Ali, which does sound very similar to Isla. Penelope Juliet is nice, Penelope Isobel..??

Stellan · 11/03/2012 20:53

Penelope Juliet Alice? Sorted.

janie2 · 11/03/2012 21:16

I have an Alice who doesn't have a nn (as yet) therefore I love it! Don't think it's too close to Isla either, Isla was our girls choice for no 2 but we got a James!!

sydenhamhiller · 11/03/2012 22:32

Ah, thanks all...Do love Alice, and DH warming to Penelope...think it will be between the two, and a different mn altogether!

DD1 meanwhile is inspired by a combination of Barbie/ Fairy/ Princess names, and will be completely unimpressed by our eventual choice.

DS is still sulking because it is going to be "another annoying little sister" and is coming up with names like 'Whiny' and 'Snotty'. Am laughing along through gritted teeth...

I love Penelope - I'm really old fashioned so I love Nell or Nellie as the nn! Penelope Alice is really really lovely though (too many Alices in my fam or I'd pinch it!), and Nell would take away the pen is name issues!

And DS will hate the name whatever for a little while if he's after a brother - I wouldn't say my youngest brother's name for over a month when he was born because he was not the sister I has expressly requested! And I wanted Blackberry as a name.

sydenhamhiller · 13/03/2012 15:04

LondonNadiy DD1 will love the name Blackberry, she must never see this thread...

DH now decides he likes Penelope as he has always loved nn Nell. Might concede Penny for Nell for Penelope .

Our surname has 'l' in it, for example 'Sleep'. Can poor Penelope-to-be be called Nell Sleep or too many Ls again.

I think Juliet is the nicest.

EssentialFattyAcid · 15/03/2012 15:50

I like Juliet the most

Hope88 · 15/03/2012 15:51

Something short for Penelope for MN. Penelope Rose etc.

Elise instead of Alice?

mumbaisapphire · 15/03/2012 19:07

I know a Juliet and she's never been called Jools. I don't think it is inevitable. Alice is lovely and goes well with Isla. They don't sound similar to me at all.
