As you can tell from DD1s name we like old fashioned, feminine, and looking for a longer name as our surname is very short. Pregnant again and need something that goes with Rosalind.

Please suggest away! Oh and please comment on our initial list.

Miranda (my undoubted first choice. DH unconvinced Hmm )
Elizabeth
Jemima
Marianne
Felicity
Jessica

I like Miranda, continue the Shakspearian theme. We have a Rowena but tht would be two R's

Mollydoggerson · 07/03/2012 21:01

I like Felicity, also Genevieve.

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/03/2012 21:02

Rowena is beautiful! Could get confusing if post arrives with just an initial...

On the Shakespeare thing, Helena is nice, Portia is a bit too posh (or is it?)... who else is there?

I love all these names!! I liked traditional and feminine names too - we have Alice, a bit short for you though!

What about.....

Josephine
Marina
Charlotte
Christina
Isobel/Isobella
Mabel (too short?)
Barbara
Catherine
Genevieve

Any good for a start off for you?

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/03/2012 21:09

Thanks Janie, DH is very keen on Alice actually.. What nicknames/affectionate diminutives does your Alice get called?

I like Genevieve (although friends have used this for their daughter, so need to tread carefully).

Josephine is really lovely - and the rocking heroine of Little Women.

Marina is great too - or Marianna.

Think Josephine is my favourite of these.

Pregnancy tiredness has struck so off to bed but thank you so much for your suggestions and I will check the thread in the morning.

I like Josephine too and I've just thought about my Dh's aunt Jocelyn, I liked it too.

Alice doesn't have a nickname - or not so far anyway!! Not sure what it would be either which was why my Dh liked it, he's not keen on shortening names hence why none of the above worked for us even though I liked them

I loved finding names!! Congratulations by the way!

Takver · 07/03/2012 21:15

Surely it should be Celia? Grin

More seriously Josephine is a fabulous name (I have one!) and has the benefit that not only is it good as it stands but if she wants to there are lots of options on shortenings depending on her personality (Jo, Josie, Feenie).

Plonker · 07/03/2012 21:17

Was going to suggest Elizabeth, so obviously I like that on your list Smile

I think Felicity 'goes' beautifully too.

How about:

Meredith
Claudia
Annabel
Georgina
Clementine
Beatrix
Heidi
Eleanor

EdithWeston · 07/03/2012 21:17

I'm nor sure if this might be a snag or a positive thing, but nns for Rosalind and Josephine give you Rosie and Posie.

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 07/03/2012 21:21

I was also going to suggest Jocelyn

bramblina · 07/03/2012 21:29

Ooooh what lovely names!! I love them all, though thought Rosalynd and Elizabeth are difficult to say together- or is that just me?!

Also love Stephanie
Phillippa
Alexandra/dria

You mentioned mail being awkward if you go for Rowena, my sister and I have the same initial and though it's not that important when you're 14 it is a PITA and so with our dc, dh and I have avoided anyone in the house sharing initials, it really annoyed me!!

StarterForTen · 07/03/2012 21:41

Juliet for the Shakesperean theme, Genevieve for loveliness,

Or how about

Evangeline
Cornelia
Mariella
Penelope
Marigold

squoosh · 08/03/2012 14:00

I think Marianne is head and shoulders above the other names on your list.

It's elegant but simple, plus great song by Leonard Cohen.

GavisonandOn · 08/03/2012 16:57

Marianne is beautiful and my favourite by a mile from your list.

I also like Felicity.

Jemima and Jessica are my least favourite.

Rosalind and...

Mary
Maria (love love love)
Lillian
Lillith
Louisa
Estelle
Frances
Marguerite
Helena

Susannah (love
Adelaide
Miriam (love)

CheerfulYank · 08/03/2012 22:12

Was going to suggest Constance or Eleanor/a. :)

Victoria? Araminta? Aurelia? (I love Aurelia :)) Susannah? Jessamine? Mirabelle? Octavia?

CheerfulYank · 08/03/2012 22:12

Verity is also pretty :)

StealthNinja · 09/03/2012 02:33

When I saw your thread title I came on to suggest Josephine, one of my all time favourites. I also love Susannah and Louisa. Throwing Eloise into the ring.

mathanxiety · 09/03/2012 04:23

Tamsin
Penelope
Cecelia
Laurel
Daphne
Vanessa
Leonora
Gabriella

I love Juliet, Beatrice, Phillipa, Alice, Helena, Sylvia, Miranda and Josephine with Rosalind.

mathanxiety · 09/03/2012 04:39

Elfrieda

StealthNinja · 09/03/2012 05:01

Whoops, I see that Gav beat me to the punch with Eloise. Turns out I have nothing original to add, but good luck choosing!
