Not mine, but SILs getting some stick from DH. I like it!

Hazel is beautiful. It was on my shortlist but it's a boy...

On the eye debate, genetics can be very surprising. Myself and dh, and our immediate families, have nondescript greeny browny eyes. Dd has somehow inherited big, striking, two-tone blue eyes that have skipped four generations on my grandfather's side. Lucky, lucky child.

Hazel is lovely.

What's wrong with the DH?

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 29/02/2012 22:41

Hazel is nice - not to my taste. I know of a 20-ish month old one and her sister is Olive. To my mind, these two names couldn't be more of the same ilk! Grin

hazel is a beautiful name :)

2cats2many · 01/03/2012 09:30

Another positive vote here. Its lovely.

Trills · 01/03/2012 09:33

It's a bit old-lady. But old-lady and old-man names come around in cycles.

Trills · 01/03/2012 09:33

ANd it's a perfectly nice name.

leftwingharpie · 01/03/2012 09:34

Slinkingoutside you took the words out of my mouth re Hazel and Olive! Grin

pictish · 01/03/2012 09:34

My friend's dd is Hazel. Really suits her - I think it's lovely!

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2012 09:38

She thought she was a horse. Seriously, the Hazel I went to school with up until the age of 15 pretended to be a horse at all times. That aside...

Hazel's a beautiful name.

BTW, my ILs, one of my BILs, SIL and DH all have blue eyes and B- blood type. Other BIL has brown eyes and A+ blood type. It is of course possible, not probable but definitely possible to produce a child so thoroughly unlike yourselves. I mean dd's quite pretty and I look like a bag of spanners. It happens.

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 01/03/2012 09:43

SOH, I knew a Heidi who did the same!

Literally considered herself to be a horse until we went to senior school.

Wow, I've just remembered that and am sitting here in puzzlement at how utterly blase we all were about that at primary school. 'You're a horse? No problemo' Grin

Maybe it's an H name thing.

I have to say, I find Hazel a bit grim. Very Pauline/Shirley and exactly the same as Beverley.

redrubyshoes · 01/03/2012 09:57

I still enjoy the odd canter around my kitchen then into the hallway and through the sitting room. I even sometimes neigh but only when I am alone.

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2012 10:28

Hazel's a horse

Oh to be 7 again...

Hedwig3 · 01/03/2012 10:30

I like it too, hubby said no.

mathanxiety · 01/03/2012 16:51

SoH, I went to school with someone like that too, and she carried it on all through senior school, but her name wasn't Hazel. She eventually got her own horse and took care of it every morning wherever she had it stabled before coming straight to school, so she even smelled like a horse most days.

4madboys · 01/03/2012 17:02

we had Hazel on our name list for dd, one of the reasons we didnt choose it is beause dp and i and all our other 4 kids have blue eyes so it was likely that dd would have blue eyes, she is indeed blonde and blue eyed so thought it would seem a bit odd, but that was just us. its a lovely name :)

squoosh · 01/03/2012 17:23

It's interesting. I'd never automatically expect someone called Hazel to have hazel coloured eyes. To me it's a botanical name like Violet or Ivy.

4madboys · 01/03/2012 17:32

no i wouldnt assume that they would but we didnt think the name woudl suit our dd, partly because of her colouring, but it just didnt suit her.

Violet was another name i loved, but dp didnt Hmm

SayBoo · 01/03/2012 17:47

Pretty name.

colditz · 01/03/2012 17:52

hazel's nice

TheLastNameLeft · 01/03/2012 18:01

Its the best name in the world and its mine Grin

Growing up with it in the 1970's wasnt much fin though..got even worse in the 80's with the onset of the topic adverts "what has a hazelnut in every bite?"

and I have green eyes

TheLastNameLeft · 01/03/2012 18:02

fin? I meant fun Blush

DontCallMeBaby · 01/03/2012 19:08

It's DD's middle name. She thought it was 'Hazor' until she was 6 - I didn't realise until she tried to write it down. Blush Has a certain sci-fi ring to it, and there certainly aren't any others in the school ...

Greenshirt · 01/03/2012 19:12

yellowflowers · 01/03/2012 23:42
